Labs & Cancer

Postby Sprig » Wed Sep 18, 2002 11:36 am

Well guys, My wife sat me out on the porch last night gave me a beer and said she had some bad news !, with tears running down her face, she told me My Nine year old Lab, (Hunting partner) “Storm” has cancer, he had a knot removed last week, the vet called yesterday and said it was a Mast Cell Tumor. We want know what stage it is in until Monday. It has been recommended that we carry him over to the MSU vet school for a complete review. Any of you guys ever been through this?, any advice?, I don’t want them to cut him up from Head to Tail, but I gota keep him going, heck he’s like my son ! :(

:( I hope that you and your friend can still have some good times together. The vets at MSU will be able to tell you what you need to know. We all want quality of life for our four legged friends. My thoughts will be with you. My girl is 10 now, and is starting to show her age. If you need someone to talk to, just e-mail me. Jack

My thoughts & prayers will be with ya'll. Yes, they are part of the family!!
My old man is 9 & 1/2 and he too is showing his age now. Have a lot of
respect for the vets at MSU. They've always been very good with my animals. Best of luck to you all.

My 7 year old had a mast cell tumor and it was removed by my vet. After being sent to a lab it was determined to be a stage 2 of 3 stages. Stage 2 can go either way. My vet removed the tumor from her pad on her foot very tough removal and put her on prednisone for six months. Well it has been over a year and nothing has returned. So just make sure you have a great vet and hopefully things will work out great. Goodluck

OODUCKsr....thanks for the doc.s #, I hope to know what stage it is in on Monday, It and all the tissue around it was removed, yet due to the location not much more can be removed, (or at least STORM would not apprectiate it) the tumor was next to his pecker. Once again thank you for the info !!
