Aww crap, somehow these topics often ricochet into outer space, sometimes it's informative or humorous and other times it just goes sour.

FISH, I respect your trooper brother and I'm glad he's out there. My beef is with the particulars of the stickers and renewals, which is obviously not determined by the "cop on the beat". The renewals were funded, but eliminated by the deaprtment and the money used elsewhere within the department. That information may well be twisted around, I dunno, I don't have a notarized statement.

P.S. I didn't get a ticket, but just realized I was riding around with everything expired but my tag. Wondering how I missed a renewal, boo-boo waiting to happen etc. etc.

P.S.S. If this thing keeps getting more sour I'm just gonna delete the thread, (if possible?) you kids play fair now, ya hear.

OK.... Since some people are getting a little ticked in here... Let me add some perspectives....

Motherducker.... Yeah we as law enforcement officers do tend to drive faster than the posted speed limit... but I can tell you that there are times that I can get to a call FASTER without lights and siren than WITH lights and siren because at least 75% of the general public PANIC when blue lights and a blaring siren come up behind them, usually just stopping in the middle of the road, yes in the middle of the road, sometimes almost causing an accident. If people don't see me coming with lights and siren on then they can't react in this way and I can usually get around them without incident. So maybe the next time you see one, he or she may be on a call. Give them the benefit of the doubt.

digger.... Yeah some troopers and officers do wear a chip on their shoulder and some do have an attitude.... but don't let the few tarnish the rest of us good ones. You know there are bad apples in every bunch. Also you don't know what that trooper or officer just had to deal with... a drunk, an "turd-cutter", an idiot or an irate person who got mad because they got caught speeding or something else. They may have just left a wreck scene where a child was injured or killed. Don't judge somebody unless you've walked in their shoes first.

Dutch Dog... Not all troopers or officers are smart booty, lazy buzz heads pumped up on testosterone. And I work with many troopers who don't think their $#!+ doesn't stink. As far as the trooper you encountered...I personally think he should have and could have made an arrest in that situation. But don't let that one perception lead you to think all officers are like that.

I work with every facet of law enforcement.... DEA, ATF, Customs, State Troopers, MBN, Deputies, Sheriffs, Chiefs, Etc.. and I admit there are some of these officers that do wear a chip on their shoulder... but the majority are average everyday people like you and me that just happen to work in a job where they don't know what's going to happen in the next 5 minutes. MOST of the time it's us you call when help is needed on a criminal basis... and ALL of the time we respond.
It's not a passion, it's a sickness!!! I don't want a cure!!!!

Well, I have a state trooper/inspection sticker story too: It all began in the Delta one fine day after a glorious morning of duck hunting had produced limits for me and my buddies. I had just left the River Road World Famous Chicken restaurant in Ruleville, MS after a delicious victory lunch, and was heading back to the hunting camp east on Hwy 8. Just after I left the city limits, where the speed limit was 55mph, a state trooper passed by me in the opposite lane and then suddenly stopped, turned around, put on his blue lights, drove up behind me, and stopped me. To make a long story even longer, since I was driving no faster than 45 mph, I was puzzled as to what I might have done wrong. The officer approached my vehicle and walked right past my driver's side window, looked down at my windshield, and proudly proclaimed:"I thought that sticker was out, and I was right". Yep, it had expired all of 3 days. Well, he proceeded to write me a ticket for an expired sticker, which wound up costing me approx. $75. Times must have been hard in Ruleville/Sunflower County. Of course, since I had enjoyed such a fine day up until that point, I guess I had it coming.
You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.

I too have one. I was stopped at a road block on 49 several years back and was told to pull over and I just knew it was because I was all camo'ed up that they made me pull to the side. The trooper came up to me and said boy when was the last time you changed that inspection sticker. I told him it was not due till Feb and he laughed and said yeah Feb last year!!! OH $#!+... He wrote out a ticket and asked me as he was writing why I havent noticed it and I told him I only use the truck for hunting and for some reason I had thought it still was fine till Feb.

The old boy laughed again tore the ticket up and told me to go straight to the inspection station and get a new sticker - don't pass go don't collect 200 dollars and if I don't he will collect 200 dollars next stop.

They have a hard job and like every organization you have good and bad. I was real glad to have good that day. And yes I went straight to the station and got a new sticker before I went home.

Yup, there's good and there's bad. You've gotta respect them for what they do though. They put up with ill people all day and put their lives on the line for hardly any pay. School teachers do better than most of them do! They're there to serve and protect us. I have nothing for respect for them. I'm sorry some of you have run across some of the bad apples.

RB>>>my best friend is a deputy in my hometown. I let him read this posting the other day when he came down to Starkville. He liked what you said!

This ain't about a trooper but since this has got off into other branches of law enforcement. If any of ya'll picked up a Commercial Appeal in the last 2 days you probably haven't missed the stories about our S.O. You have to have Real Player to view this. Its worth the trouble to download just to see this. Takes a 1/2 minute to load be patient though, it's worth the wait.
