Thanks for those fine words of encouragement, Jim. Good luck on the 'honks'.

Re: Canada.....I need much more practice with the video camera than I do with a gun. But I hope to get some decent footage this year, in spite of my inexperience. I'm looking for a shot of another duck standing on my foot bag, or one standing 5 feet away with an inch of snow piled-up on his bill.......or another snow goose tripping over the jerk string to the 'flapper' decoy. 'Can't wait.......Anatidae's Funniest Videos (of ducks and geese, that is)

Yeah, I really wish I'd gotten a photo of that one..........it was really neat! We never thought about shooting the little guy.....we just enjoyed being that close to him, watching to see what he was going to do. Snow was piled up on his bill about an inch high.

He just plopped down right in front of us.......came out of nowhere (during the snow). He landed, looked around, shook his head, took his foot and raked-off some of the snow, sat there a minute, then took-off for parts, Southward.

Anne and I just laughed and talked about what we just witnessed......we came to the conclusion he just pulled off the highway to clean his windshield.  One of the many highlights of our trips to SK.

Now that I have a decent video camera, I will keep it handy for moments like that.......(if I can keep Anne from shooting everything that comes-in.)

Last year, I coulda gotten some awesome footage of the most ducks I've ever seen in one spot.......there were hundreds! Trouble is......they were literally on top of us and Anne was ready to shoot. So, I didn't get but just a smidgin' of video on that morning. Maybe I can post a still shot.

I need to check this forum more often, good funny stuff there Anat.

Making fun of those sponsor lists really makes you aware of how goofy and out of hand some TV shows etc. have become. I realize someone has to pay the bills but.............. it's downright annoying.

Put me down for a video of any Anatidae Family Safari Follies.

Yeah Red.......(re: TV shows).......I was flippin' through the channels this weekend and stopped on a deer hunting show (wish I could remember what the name was), and some country singer was singin' a song about killing a deer........something like....

"Yeah, I got my truck, got my bow"

"figgin t' go tag me a big, fat doe"

"So, up the tree I bound"

"Gonna put a big one on the ground"

"Oh Suzzanna.........(and so on..... )

Man, it was stupid! What kinda idiot writes a song about deer hunting? :? Better yet, who would listen to it?

I just couldn't believe it...............Why not be a little more clever with the lyrics like.......

"We ain't sorry, we ain't wrong, and it'll probably happen again." (song about the three things men say to get their wives off their back when they screw-up......"I'm sorry"......."I was wrong"........and, "It won't happen again.")

I love it when they say......"we got a good show lined up for you today.......we got Billy Bob 'Buck' Bushwacker, president of "All Thumbs Archery".....and we're going to hunt exotic goats in South Texas, with a cross-bow, over bait."

Why don't they let the viewer decide what consistutes a 'good show', instead of insulting their intelligence with some bull$#!+ like that?

Then they show you an ad for 'the 'TC Pro Hunter' (muzzleloader) :?

Here's a good shot, Jim........you can't really tell how many ducks are behind these in the photo.......but it was a steady stream all the way from the pothole, some 1/2-mile away, down the hill. We were on the 'X' and they were all zeroed-in on us. You could shoot the first wave, they would break-off, then the stream would re-align and come right to you. There was barely enough time to reload your gun before the next wave hit you. Needless to say, that hunt didn't last very long.

Image

The photo doesn't really do it justice. I have another photo of the sky over the mallard shells that is dotted with thousands of birds as they lifted-off form that pothole........unbelievable!

I DO have the scouting vidoe footage of this spot, the day before. The ground looked like it was covered with a swarm of giant bees........literally thousands of ducks......mostly mallards. I'll see if I can get a clip put on here for y'all to see what I'm talking about........you just won't believe your eyes.
