This may have been said already but Posted Dry = Posted wet works for us most of the time........Seems to be some confusion around here on the inside of some of the islands.....not in the island itself but between the islands and the rivers banks.... I dunno... I like hunting the MS River but leased property sure is nice

1927 was a mother! 1973,1983,1993(upper river),1996, and it has come close to flood stage at Vicksburg a lot of other years. ACOE here at your service.

Yep. Don't y'all remember the article about the coyotes running through mainstreet Friar's Point and the deer pics somebody put on this site.

It floods pretty regularly. If it weren't for the levee, somebody would be leaving the main channel and boating over to Greenwood claiming "I thought I was in the river" No, sorry, the bluff at Tchula is not the normal high water bank, sir.

There is a lot of gray area on the lawbooks, but I think anything between the top of the banks along the channel, excluding large islands with mature trees, should be public. And I believe that MS Code 51-1-4 explains that when it says the public shall have the right to free transport in the river and it's bed. This includes all oxbows to the top of their natural banks. Anything that was a part of a public waterway and was navigable in fact at the time of MS statehood in 1812 is a public water body.

Down from Natchez I saw Glascok Island helicopter sit over some boys spread one morning till they picked up and left. Then followed them to the bank and had the GW waiting on them. They were arrested but amazingly no charges were ever pressed. No landowner wants to take this to trial because he knows if he losses, he has opened the masses. Those boys had gone unreasonably far into the inner lake and I see the point but if you going to have someone arrested follow through. In discussing it with the GW he states that if someone wants to go a reasonable distance into the trees where the main lake is visible that is fine is how he looks at it. When the river is up you can bet that helicopter is patroling like Frank Melton.

Dem boys that picked up with the chopper overhead werent too smart. Hell All they had to do was wait on that Hello to get low on fuel and then go about ya business. I would not have moved and inch at least towards any boat ramp!!

The Glasscock ordeal is a prime example of what I am talking about. Those guys were hunting on "Old River at Deer Park". They were on the far side of old river which boarders Glasscock Island part of Mississippi if they had been on the other side they would have been over the bar pits that I hunt in Louisiana. They were between what are considered the natural banks and the levee system but they were still harrassed. I think it is about time that this is addressed in the courts and a very detailed conclusion made.

Yes I know. But it is like I said it is when you push it to far. From the way this ruling looks you would not be able to hunt or fish old river Minorca at all. Giles Island was pissed because people came in on the flood waters all the way up the chute and were damn near at there camp. I think they were more worried about people stealing then anyting else and for that I don't blame them. But to say that people can't hunt or fish in old river is tough to swallow.

That is what I would think. But what is not known yet is what access the public will have to it.

It flooded 2 feet up the side of the levee 2 years ago. They closed deer hunting West of HWY 61 it was so bad. Scattered the deer everywhere, so yes, it is a relevant subject to be talking about. And YES, people who don't lease/own land next to the MS river, or any other river, go crazy when they flood, and go wherever they want. Why? It's not theirs to go on. What difference does water make? "Oh i can get there by boat so let's go boys!" It ain't right? Ask anybody who does have land next to a river and they say its wrong. Ask anybody who doesn't have land next to a river and they say its right. Why should anyone be allowed to navigate SOMEONE ELSES land, just because the water rises when the person who owns it, pays taxes on that land, spends money planting milo/corn/millet to attract the ducks for outlaws to hunt just because the water rises?
