MSU's waiver for Ducre accepted by NCAA

Postby Greenhead22 » Mon Sep 04, 2006 9:22 pm

Mississippi State received word Monday that transfer running back Christian Ducre's appeal for 2006 eligibility has been granted by the NCAA.

Ducre has been practicing with the Bulldogs since his admission the first week of August, while awaiting action on his appeal to play immediately without sitting out the standard transfer season. Ducre, a freshman from Fontainbleau High School in Mandeville, La., left after one year at Tulane University when his major was dropped by the New Orleans school. He redshirted as a true freshman at Tulane.

Mississippi State resumes on-field practices for Saturday's game Tuesday afternoon.

This is an entirely different scenario from the UM stuff that's been going on. Tulane dropped several majors when the hurricane hit, so some football players left so they wouldn't have to miss a year for transfer due to the exemption the ncaa gave them.

Mississippi has gotten some players from Tulane. In fact Oregano/cookie monster was calling them days after the storm. Ducre was the only one we got and it just took a while for the NCAA to rule.

This is nothing like the "eligiblity issues" with Powe.

a few facts....

first, we have no players from tulane

second, ducre had no declared major while he was at tulane, thus the red flagging by the NCAA b/c of the bogus situation...... they basically found the majors dropped by tulane, and told him to declare one.... nothing less, nothing more, and no, i have no problem with him going to MSU, they can have all the second string RB's from conf. usa that they want.

My apologies....you are correct. I forgot that you actually did not get any of the players, you only got accused of being "lower than dirt"

Perhaps those of you so "well versed" in Mississippi football will remember this article.

November 22, 2005
Ole Miss admits inquiring on Tulane players
Answering allegations that his coaching staff may have tampered with the Tulane football team, Mississippi AD Pete Boone admitted that one of his coaches has contacted Tulane about players transferring after this season.

The announcement came almost two weeks after the allegations were made by Tulane, calling the school in question "lower than dirt".

Boone said he encouraged the contact by first-year Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron and his staff, according to Sunday's Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger. But on Monday, Boone said the contact was made because of miscommunication.
"I didn't know Ed or one of his assistants was going to call Tulane," Boone said. "That's not what I asked him to do."

...

Boone said he only wanted Orgeron to get information about Tulane's players in case something happened with the Green Wave's program. Boone said they had heard rumors that Tulane's football program was going to be forced to disband because of financial problems brought on by Katrina.

"I didn't want (Orgeron) to get caught trying to find out information about the players (at the last minute) if this in fact happened," Boone said. "I just said, 'Let's do our homework.' Ed probably thought it was fine for him or one of his assistants to contact one of (Tulane's) coaches."

According to the initial reports, Ole Miss will probably not be subject to NCAA or SEC sanctions. Mississippi says they only talked to Tulane coaches and back channel contacts, not directly to the players. Since Tulane isn't commenting, it's not clear if the Rebels' coaches actually ever spoke to a player, or just back channels as they claim.

I also recall that Ducre had to attend correspondence courses to gain eligibility ---I believe he took them within a two week span at an institution in Georgia.

So, if we were to apply the lessons some preach re Shaeffer, Powe, etc., then we would have to ask: how could he possibly complete more than one course in two weeks? did he do his own work? did he actually attend the classes? if so, where is the proof? and why did he have to attend these classes to gain eligibility ---did he not do well at Tulane? was he really dismissed from the team for academic reasons? would he have been eligible to play if he stayed at Tulane? why go to Georgia to take these classes? and why correspondence classes? is he too dumb to pass regular classes? and why does he get to declare a major after the fact, and then say that is why he left Tulane was that they dropped the major he intended to declare, but never got around to it?

So many questions. OF course, I don't care to hear the answers, it matters not to me. I am just demonstrating the absurdity with all the media and opposing fan hoopla surrounding UM's recruits this year. Twilight Zone stuff.
