Dumb as a bag of rocks???

Postby DuckyDan » Mon Sep 09, 2002 3:46 pm

I got an idea to put some motion into a decoy spread the other day...Anyone ever thought of putting some gravel in their coat pocket and tossing a couple out in the deeks when call shy birds swing downwind? I just thought about it the other day. I know it would put ripples in the water when they cut back. The only drawback is, I'm not carrying a decoy bag full of rocks in the bottom! Only a handful would work. I think I may try it this year. If anyone else has any ideas, let 'em roll.

By the way, yes, I do know what a jerk string is.........

what happens when you hit one of your dekes with the rock and it makes a great big "whack" sound? Just get you a jerk string rig and be done with it.

i have thrown everything from rocks to cotton picker spindles.... last year i carried a 5 gal bucket of pecans to eat on and ended up throwing most of them at dekes and birds.... a great trick for a dog that didn't get a mark on a down bird.... {you may also want to include a sling-shot in your arsenal.....haha.....} a good idea that works.....

I'm gonna try something new this year for movement. I have an old trolling motor that I picked up at an auction house for $5.00. It works great.

I'm gonna drive two metal fence posts into the ground, attach a 2"x6" block about 6" long between the posts and mount the trolling motor. I'll run a power cord to the blind where I'll have a battery. I plan to paint the trolling motor, probably black and mount a jackkite on top to cover it. If it works according to plan I'll get some water movement and may a little vibration to the jackkite. I dont know how well it'll work but it wont cost me anything but time. If it doesnt work well I'll go back to the tried and true jerk cord.
