It appears that Powe now definately has a team of attorneys representing him in this matter before the NCAA on appeal of the adverse ruling on his eligibility rendered last Friday --- specialists in NCAA rules, ADA, rights of those with learning disabilities, civil rights, etc. There is re-newed optimism in the Powe camp that the NCAA will overturn its previous decision since it appears at best to be based on no written NCAA rule and pure speculation(no proof of wrongdoing by Powe). At worst, it appears to be based upon an assumption that a learning disabled student could not possibly complete the work he completed within the time frame it was done. Without proof, this is the type of assumption that is illegal and a violation of Powe's legal rights.

The last day to enter UM this fall is this Friday. Thus, absent a decision by the NCAA this Friday, then the matter is a moot point for this season.

IF the NCAA fails to overturn the decision by Friday, then it appears that the following events will occur: 1) Powe will do whatever is necessary to gain eligibility to enter UM in December as a student athlete; and 2) a lawsuit against the NCAA will likely ensue to recover money damages and prevent the NCAA from taking such arbitrary, illegal actions in the future.

Until there is a ruling by the NCAA on the appeal by Powe, there will likely be no further info on the matter.

One final tidbit of interest. Some close to the Powe family in his hometown are saying that the NCAA was prepared to approve Powe until Auburn lodged a complaint about Powe completing a couple of the correspondence courses in a short time frame (6-7 days per course).

Auburn (Tub), that bastion of academic integrity, national leader in sociology, ground breaker in self-study courses, complaining to the NCAA about a kid who has not broken any NCAA rules. This is rich!!!  One would think they would have enough to clean up in their own backyard.

I assume on his team of attorneys are Dickie and Zach Scruggs as well as Lowry Lomax and a few others...aka...the men who run Ole Miss athletics...aka...the men to be mentioned in a coming NCAA investigation.

Simmer down Camlock, I am not talking about getting investigated over this Powe issue. You Ole Miss folks are so jumpy, maybe the rest of us have made you that way.

I am talking about investigations over improper benefits that are traced back to the "Plaintiff Phriendly Phootball Boosters" or 3PB. The investigation will happen sooner or later. Not because it is Ole Miss, and not because other schools like LSU and Auburn don't do the same thing...but it will happen. 3PB is doing nothing to hide their influence on the program, like loaning out the jet to fly Pete and Co. around to interview coaches or entertain recruits on official visits. All of that is legal, but there is probably more to it than that, or so I have heard (whatever that means) and I am sure I am not the only one.

LSU will probably get busted over its connections to the Shaw Group.

Also, I am not saying Tubby is above it, but I just don't see him having any real reason to get involved in this matter. I know Powe was really interested in Auburn at one time. I know Powe is a game breaking type player, but Ole Miss is more than Jerrell Powe away from being anywhere near the league of Auburn right now.

Delta, I don't know who is on his team of attorneys, but I believe one is a local attorney in Powe's hometown and the others are with the ACLU. I have not heard any mention of Scruggs or the other personal injury attorneys of tobacco/asbestos litigation fame. Such a matter as this would likely be outside of their practice area. Further, these guys are knee deep in Katrina related suits right now to have time to fool with Powe's situation. I think you are barking up the wrong tree on your assumptions.

Delta, I am surprised that you would throw out these vague, reckless allegations of a future NCAA investigation of UM based upon events that have not occurred nor for which you have any proof of them having occurred. Careful now, or you will start being lumped in with the paranoid delusional, black helicopter gang of MSU sheep on Gene's page, or the infamous "Mr. Dry Ribs" in Memphis, who is equally clueless.

And it is fairly common knowledge that Tub has been behind the scenes complaining to the SEC and NCAA throughout this entire process of Powe attempting to gain eligibility. So, this info from the Powe camp is not really that shocking. Tub is a "whiner" who carries petty grudges ---always has been ---I hate to admit it, but he was that way at UM ---and he still is now at Auburn. He can't help it --it is just part of his character.

Po Monk,

I am not trying to start any mess about impending probation or any of that. Normally I try to refrain from any of the "I heard X" type of mess. I am just playing around with reference to Scruggs and Co. with reference to Powe, to a certain extent. I am sure if they feel he is receiving ineffective counsel in any way they will see to it that attorneys worth their salt handle the case. Put it this way, I am sure this is a topic of conversation in their firms that is viewed with more than idle eyes.

The reason I mention Scruggs and Co. is from personal experience pertaining to them and Ole Miss football, I will leave it at that and will not say anymore.

In actuality, they are no different than Bobby Deep-Pockets at any school. ESPN Outside the Lines had a special last fall about some big booster from Auburn. As I stated before, LSU is knee deep with Shaw Group.

Perhaps I should shut my mouth with reference to all of this stuff as it is worth nothing until it actually happens and a investigation ensues.

At any rate, I do apologize to any and all offended by my dragging the forum through the mud.

They oughta just leave this kid Powe in a room alone with Tubberville for about five minutes. If Tubs gets out alive, he gets to go forward with his "complaint."

Hell, put Tubs in a room with Orgeron over all this...see how that turns out!

Promise you if I was O, I'd already spoken with Tubberville and he'd be moving forward with caution or disregard one of the two...mf'r needs to mind his own f'in program!
