Best Expandible Broadhead

Postby deredwine » Wed Aug 23, 2006 9:09 am

What is the best brand expandible broadhead? I have always been a die hard thunder head man but I would like to try something different this year.

There is no "GOOD" expandable broadhead, stay with a fixed blade.

I haven't tried them, but I hear the G5 Tekan-II expandables are pretty good. A buddy of mine shoots them and said they were pretty deadly, he said they bust bone pretty good and hold up well.

G5 Tekan II's worked good for me last year. I've never really been a huge fan of expandables but these flew like my field points and packed a pretty good punch when they got were they were going.

The makers of thunderhead make a couple of different ones. Check into them.

Spitfires. Haven't lost a deer yet and it makes a wicked hole.

I don't shoot them anymore for 2 reasons:

(1) Several times the arrow has hit a rib and broken off the blades.

(2) They are bad to deflect off a rib (instead of breaking thru) and turn 45 degrees, exiting either thru the neck or out the gut. Not good, IMO. 8)

They work great if you hit every deer right behind the shoulder and right between the ribs but may GOD be with you if you hit a shoulder or a rib. I hate to say it but if you insist on expandables PLEASE shoot a POD!!!!!!! Least you get enough penetration to get far enough for it to open.
