They seem to be dropping like flies, day after day.

Zero is shipping some out. Some are fed up with Zero and quitting on their own. Some are having class probs already and are having to attend tutoring over practices........or so I hear.

Per the CL.......

The Rebels are trying to rebuild a group that started four seniors in 2005. It hasn't helped that two of Ole Miss' projected starters - defensive ends Peria Jerry and Chris Bowers - have missed most of preseason camp for undisclosed reasons. And another projected starter, defensive tackle Jerrell Powe, hasn't been cleared by the NCAA.

If that's not enough, defensive tackle Hayward Howard and defensive end Brandon Jenkins also missed the first week trying to finish summer school coursework. The duo entered camp a little behind their teammates.

All of the problems have slowed the progress up front.

"Nothing has happened the way we want it to," Orgeron said last week. "We're making a little progress, but it's not the way we want it. We still have a lot of work to do."

Peria Jerry, Chris Bowers and Jerrell Powe. The three projected starters have been missing throughout the preseason. Powe hasn't been cleared by the NCAA, while Orgeron will not comment on the reasons why Jerry and Bowers haven't been on the field.

Also per the CL..............

QB DAVIS STILL ON TEAM

Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron said walk-on quarterback Cliff Davis is still with the team.

Orgeron said he wasn’t sure if Davis had left after the former Eupora High standout was a no-show at last Saturday’s scrimmage.

But Orgeron said Davis, who played baseball in the Houston Astros organization for three years, will be back on the practice field today.

OTHERS GONE

In addition, Orgeron said defensive linemen Reterio Brown and tight end Jason Hawkins were no longer with the team. Orgeron declined to elaborate, but Brown and Hawkins were among five Ole Miss players who missed time trying to finish summer school classes.

SCRIMMAGE NO-SHOWS

In addition to Davis, defensive ends Peria Jerry and Chris Bowers, receiver Carlos Suggs and lineman David Traxler didn't attend the scrimmage.

TOO MANY DROPS

Ole Miss was hoping to see improvement from its receivers Saturday, but Werner said there still were too many dropped passes.

That's what happens when you have speedsters and not "receivers."

gh22 has no clue about anything..... he has lots his closet rebel status.... players aren't "dropping like flies", the last one to quit b/c of coaching was alan abrams, who quit while mazzone and luke were still here. There are no problems with O. The team actually has a 180 degree attitude difference from last year, amazing what happens when maggone hit the road.... also amazing at how little "stuff" has started since maggone left.

4 left over summer b/c they were never going to see the field

2 more left for "undisclosed reasons", keep in mind, these 'undisclosed reasons' took place right after intersession..... Hawkins, one of the two that left was very sick this past spring and missed about two and a half weeks of class. In other words, grades were an issue with those two, but brown had always had grade issues, hawkins got behind and couldn't catch up to stay ahead of the curve.

Davis, does not have an attitude problem. He's been on his own for 4 years now, had $$ in the bank, and basically could do what he wanted when he wanted to. Now that he's on a college team, alot of his freedom was taken away, nothing more, nothing less. He just had some thinking to do and the coaches gave him an opportunity to do that.

jerry and bowers will be fine..... suggs and traxler will be fine, no need to fret on them, coaches aren't announcing injuries.

None are having grade issues that is requiring tutoring over practices.....

keep tryin pups
Sun rise in the east.... and it sets up in the West, yes the sun rise in east baby, and it sets up in the west..... It's hard to tell, hard to tell, hard to tell, which one, which one I love best.....

Supposedly, the Clearinghouse should be done by Friday with all players from all schools. If they don't get cleared by Friday, don't look for them to be cleared. LSU still has three, including Keiland Williams (who will be counted on heavily) who need to be cleared.

Bottom line: Hawkins and Brown left team as academic casualties. Not formally announced due to privacy reasons.

Peria Jerry and Bowers are banged up and being rested and given time to heal. Both know the D and will be fine. Coach O's new policy re no specific info re injuries is being used by the press to create stories. However, I like the new rule. No reason to give the opposition too much specific info re player injuries that can be used by opponents to game plan and take advantage. Keep your opponents in as much suspense as possible.

Jenkins and Howard had to attend intersession classes to maintain eligibility and did so, making the necessary scores, but missed some fall practive time.

John Jerry is expected to be officially cleared by the NCAA today.

Powe's eligibility is expected to be ruled upon by the NCAA review committee this Friday. Powe's recent attempt yesterday to enroll at UM and his admission being partially denied by UM was a very smart and clever way to shift the burden and pressure on Powe's eligibility back to the NCAA this Friday. Basically, UM said Powe has the grade point average, the required core courses, and the required ACT score (certified by the ACT testing body) to be admitted now as a non-scholarship student at UM, but he can not be admitted as a scholarship athlete until the NCAA committee has given its approval. IF the NCAA denies him eligibility this Friday, then it will have to have concluded that Powe did not in fact do the the work himself. Where any such proof of that will come from, I have no idea. Absent any such proof, he should be approved. IF he is denied, I expect a lawsuit by Powe against the NCAA for discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act (Powe has ADD) and perhaps on other grounds. I expect that he will be approved by the NCAA this Friday. And he will be on the field against Memphis.

I suspect that Coach O is "poor mouthing" a bit right now. By the Memphis game, our D line should be ready to go at full strength. I expect our D to be pretty stout this season.

I don't ever remember hearing so much about the clearinghouse as I have this year.

Po Monk, what is you predicted score for the Memphis game?
