Judge, My 12 year old male died a little over a year ago. There were many tears shead over the days and weeks after his passing. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about Jack till this day. You will never be able to completely replace her, but I found that a new puppy helped me get through the grieving process. Sorry about your loss, just be thankful of the time you had together over the 13 years and may God bless you with another. I just wish they could live longer.

Judge, how wonderful that you were able to be with her at the end -- a comfort to her to know you were there. I am sure she blessed your life for the past 13 years. I lost one last year. The pain never goes away, just changes. An extreme delight when they are with you, the same extreme when you lose them. And no, she can never be replaced.... Thank the good Lord for making such a special companion.

Memphis SB summed it up from A-Z. I lost my golden 6 years ago at the age of 12-13. I still see pictures of me and him and it brings back the smiles and memories of days gone by. I have a 3 year old lab now and try to devote my time to make her feel the same way she makes me feel. Like the old saying goes "A dog IS a man's BEST FRIEND" Sorry to hear
of your loss Judge.

Judge,
For what its worth, I can tell you that I cried like a little boy when Ole' Dambo died in my arms at the age of 15. I caught myslef looking at the fron porch when I drove up to see her wagging tail and hear her bark, but she was gone.
What made me feel good was on New Years Eve, a friend who had hunted for 10+ years with me an Dambo gave a toast to her, I cried again. I buried her under a magnolia tree and drank a cold beer while sitting there.
Judge, just keep thinking back on those memories and it helps the pain go away. You will always have that
twinkle in your eye when you talk about her.

Anyone who has lost a special friend like that can feel your pain. When our dogs get up there like that (Meeka is 10 a and didn't have the pep at the camp this past weekend like usual) we start regretting the day that will eventually come.
I will have to leave work to do what I have planned. The judges and lawyers can sort out the mess. We will go to a place next to a cypress brake that has plenty of spanish moss hanging down to brush your shoulders as you enter. It gives you chills approaching in the dark on a full moon. We have had plenty of good hunts there. Once 2 years ago we had to share the spot with a group of 3, for a total of 5 hunters. She was the only dog. It was a blue bird day and in the teens. As it turned out, we harvested a 5 person limit of 30 ducks. Tough conditions, especially for her age, but she never slowed down and made some awesome retrieves even a couple all the way on the other side. We photo'd the 28 ducks then began our hike out. On the way, Meeka found the two cripples that thought they got away!
Anyway, I feel like I know your loss and am saddened by it.
