Shotgun cleaning question????

Postby T-Bone » Fri Aug 30, 2002 8:32 am

I have friend who just bought a new Browning Gold Hunter. He asked me whether or not he should clean his barrel with one of the shotgun SNAKE CLEANERs that are available. I use the snake cleaners on all my rifles but have never used one to clean my shotgun. I need some "professional" advice on the subject. I use the term "professional" loosely!!! jk Your comments would be appreciated.

I use a boresnake on my shotgun, rifle, and muzzleloader. That is by far the quickest, easiest, and most effective (for me) to clean barrels. Especially on the muzzleloader. Of course, the muzzleloader still requires more effort than the others, but the boresnakes are awesome.

I just wasn't sure the shotgun snake cleaners were for the smooth bore or they were strictly for shotguns with rifled barrel.

Attach a piece of cloth to a string with a hair pin on one end. Drop the hair pin in the barrell at one end or the other and pull it through. Make sure you have enough cloth to make a tight fit. Don't forget to oil the cloth and kill two birds with one stone. I think this would be more cost effective. :?:

I use a snake all the time. Works great. Tastes great. Less filling.

The bore snake will work fine on your shotgun. Use caution however, when cleaning your rifle with one. They only remove the loose fouling from the barrel, and dont do a real good job getting out the copper and lead fouling "smeared" into the rifling. Over a period of time it will affect accuracy and the more it accumulates the harder it is to get out.
