Brewing Racial "Sitiation" in Red Stick

Postby Po Monkey Lounger » Thu Aug 10, 2006 7:44 am

Check out the article re an activist LSU student and his crusade against LSU's version of the Rebel flag that is waved/displayed by LSU fans at pre-game tailgates, etc. :

http://www.225batonrouge.com/news/2006/jul/31/last-semester-last-stand/

Oh my. Sounds similar, but maybe worse than what was happening on the UM campus back in 1983 with the Rebel flag issue and the Black Student Union protests.

Put thousands of drunk coon-ass LSU fans on campus and then have this guy parade through them and watch what happens. There be trouble brewing on da bayou for this fall. Get your tickets now. Popcorn, peanuts, corndogs, cold beer ...get it now and enjoy the pre-game show.

I've had one of those Purple & Gold rebel flags for several years and I fly it with my LSU Tigers Flag in my yard and everybody knows what it is, nothing to do with be a racist, just being a LSU Fan. I hated what happened at Ole Miss and felt it was totally wrong to have to give in to a small groups wants. Those people really need to study their history before they go and start things, they need to really find out the truth about the civil war and the rebel flag, apparently this guy doesn't know where the tiger mascot or the purle & gold rebel flag really came from. I've always said this about Louisiana, Highway 10 runs East & West and so does Highway 20 and there are also Highways that run North if you don't like it here get on one them and go somewhere else, New York will be happy to have you. The same goes for MS, the last I looked Highway 55 goes due North. I am going to stop before my blood pressure gets to high and I have to leave the office and go put my flags up, but then again I may just put them up this afternoon anyway.

This is nothing new Pomonk. This yahoo marched before several home games last year. I felt like I was in Kenya instead of LSU's campus. It was a bunch of cubs with video camera hollering at white fans daring them to say or do anything so they could get it on film. That is how propaganda is created. What is sad is the only people I saw responding to the march were visiting fans. Somehow I am sure that it will be turned around to make it look like LSU fans had harrassed them and used ethnic slurs.

Montana keeps looking better and better boys.

I love it...actually hate it. It said that this group challenged the KA house. They think they can actually make the KA's take their flag down. Doubt it. I never have. The KA Order was founded on principals of Gen. Robert E. Lee and do you think our Confederate flag will be taken down?

I am probably the only person on this board with this view of the issue. Let me preface it with this, I am a Christian, conservative, southern born and raised, KA; I like to kill harmless animals and eat them. I am for preemptive war if it protects the country. I like Southern whiskey and love Southern women. However, I think you have to pick your battles and this is a battle that you can let slide, IMO. The ability to fly a confederate flag is not an issue worth fighting in light of other issues such as affirmative action. If someone wants to call me a racist, which I am not, then do so because I oppose affirmative action, not because I insist on flying a flag. The creed of the Kappa Alpha Order is essentially to defend Christianity and women, flying a rebel flag has nothing to do with either and I am sure Lee, if he were with us today, would agree. :)

well, i don't give a rats ass about the KA's creed...point is, give them an inch, and they'll take a mile....just how much more are we suppose to give....welfare isn't enuff....free housing, food stamps, crazy checks. disability cause they too fat eating the cheese we buy them....minority scholarships, affirmative action...the list goes on...just how much do they need to be 'satisfied'......

but i do agree with you on one thing deltamud....."YOU are probably the only person on this board with this view of the issue"

Instead of the "non-violent" protests (friggin' oxymoron) the junglebunnies have why can't they just do it the democratic way and vote on it. Let the students vote, majority vote wins. Worked here with our state flag. It should be up to a vote by all involved but it won't because they would seldom win. Then if they didn't like the outcome they could just go somewhere else maybe Alaska and they wouldn't be the minority anymore.

They will not put it do a vote because the major will win. Which they are not. They are a very vocal minority and only represent 10% of the U.S. population. But I challange you to take a look at tv, news print, etc. and if you didn't know any better you would think that they were 50% of the United States population. Then take a look at the number of them in jail the number out of the work force and it looks like they represent 90% of the U.S. population. Dammit this pisses me off. I don't know why I bite.

" The ability to fly a confederate flag is not an issue worth fighting "

Whether it is or isn't is not really the question for schools who field high profile football teams. The issue is whether you want such an issue fought on your school's campus. I certainly don't want it fought on the UM campus. UM has come a long way on this issue since the initial efforts to remove the flag as a symbol of UM starting in 1983. You just don't see that many Rebel flags on campus anymore for football games, etc. And I don't want to go back. I doubt that LSU wants this battle fought on its campus either. It will hurt recruiting.
