Mississippi Season Dates Set

Postby tunica du4u » Tue Aug 27, 2002 12:10 pm

Just received this email from my DU RD. Haven't confirmed them yet.

Season was set this morning.
The season will be 60 days with a 6 bird limit, same as last year, except closure on canvasbacks and a 30 day pintail season (see below)

November 23-24 (no cans, no pintails)
November 29-December 24 (no cans, no pintails)
December 26-January 26 (no cans, pintails are legal)

Note: Pintail Season is 30 days December 28-January 26 (be careful on those pintail hens prior to that.....and after that too for that matter).

Youth Hunt February 1-2, 2003

Light geese conservation order: October 1, 2002 - November 17, 2002 & January 27, 2002 - March 31, 2003

Dark Geese - November 18, 2002 - January 26, 2003

My mother will be so happy with these dates. For the first time in memory, I will be able to enjoy Christmas dinner without itching to get it over so I can head back to the swamps! I also like the thought of ten straight weekends to hunt ducks, with an eleventh if you count the youth weekend.

Here are the hunting days in Mississippi and Arkansas that don't overlap. Mississippi is open Dec. 9,10,11,12,13 while Arkansas season is closed. Arkansas is open Nov. 25,26,27,28 and Dec.25,26,27 while Mississippi season is closed. It would be possible to hunt a total of 72 days between the two states seasons. Man, that is a ton of sunrises to witness!

Oops! Ya'll passed the test. Duck season does include Dec. 26 and 27. I didn't pay enough attention to those dates posted.

Thanks Scott. I couldn't find any confirmation on those dates when I received them. I called to see and was told he cut & pasted off the email he received from one of your counterparts. I went back and corrected the original post guys. It will reflect the correct dates now. Didn't make sense to me not to hunt the 26th. Probably the most hunted day of the season. 8)

Missed Opportunity

Postby jebster » Wed Aug 28, 2002 6:58 am

I think we missed a golden opportunity to rid ourselves of our image as "meat hunters" by adopting the 6 duck limit. This image problem has cost us hunting days in the past. This is especially magnified by the fact that Arkansas opted volunatrily to reduce the bag limit from 6 to 5.

But, the real reason we should have chosen 5 ducks is that the population surveys clearly show ducks are declining. Place this against a back drop of worsening habitat conditions and the future is cloudy at best. I think we have acted irresponsibly on this issue. Once again, Mississippi shoots itself in the foot.

Of course, this is only my opinion.

A break??? What the hell kind of wussy needs a break?? Give me a break!
You gonna get yo booty up like the rest of us every morning. All 60 of them. We're not even going to think about work during Dec and Jan. Just going to hunt like a SOB every day. When I leave the house after Thanksgiving, I am just going to leave the little miss a note telling her I'll be somewhere in the Delta in a duck marsh for the next two months, but may come home for Christmas, since the season will be closed that day.
Ho Ho Ho!!! Ting-a-ling Ting-a-ling.
You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.
