Schaffer - Leader????
Eli Manning was a great leader and a great quaterback....smart, made the grades, good athlete.......but back up and take a look at Schaffer.
Do you really want a guy with his shady past....heck, you have to committ murder to get kicked off the team at UT....and questionable intellegence to be the leader of your team. This is the guy that's supposed to be your leader, set the example, have the rest of the team look up to. It may seem hypocritical, but I could see you bringing in someone with "questionable" character / intelect at any other position.......but I think putting a guy like Shaffer at QB is piss poor judgement

would you like me to post part of his interview today ?
personally, i think your "view" of him is uncalled for and unreasonable...
he told certain reporters off the record his first job at Ole Miss is to get to know the team, be accepted by them, become one of the TEAM, and EARN the position that Coach O has already awarded him....

various quotes from the Ole Miss Spirit, Rebelgrove on Rivals, and other media outlets.....
"I had accepted that I was going to come in and compete regardless. I never get my head set for second, I'm going to go out and think about the best that's going to happen in a situation," Schaeffer said. "I'm very grateful Coach O did that but I know I'm going to have to prove to my teammates that I'm qualified for the job."
"It feels good to be here, a relief. I'm very anxious to meet all my teammates and get going," Schaeffer noted. "I got here late last night and I got to meet some coaches and trainers and support people this morning, but I won't meet my teammates until today after check-in."
"Things didn't go according to plan earlier this summer, but I finally got everything done," he noted. "I've been anxious to get here and get going. I finally got finished with what I had to do and I thank God for that.
"I will work hard and do my best for the team."
"Coach Werner and I have been talking on the phone for a long time now, so I should be able to get acclimated pretty quickly to the offense. I'm going to put a lot of time into my preparation," he explained. "I've had the playbook a long time. I've also been watching some DVDs of spring training and of Miami's offense. Coach Werner and I have talked several times a week and I've been working out with my ex teammates (College of Sequoias) who are going to different colleges."
"That wasn't a major reason for me coming here. No matter where I went, I was going to compete for the job. I have never approached competition as me ending up number two," he continued. "I just think of the best case of a situation with me being number one. I am grateful to Coach O for doing that, but I still know I have to prove to my teammates and coaches that I am qualified for that job. I also know I have to prove I can get the job done to keep the job.
"I'm just going to play hard and do my best. I am a competitor. I will try to soak up everything Coach Werner gives me and operate the offense the way they want me to. I will also play my game, because it's the only game I know how to play, but it will be within this system and the way I am coached," Schaeffer stated. "I will do my best to take everything in stride and learn everything as it's thrown at me.
"I expect to have to do extra work in the film room and after practice, but I would have done that if I had arrived early in the summer. I like to consider myself a quick learner when it comes to football. I think I have football smarts. I understand the playbook now. I don't expect problems."

Wow. That is quite an assessment you have made there about a young man you obviously know very little about. "Shady past" ? The kid got in a fight with someone who was harrassing his girlfriend, resulting in a simple assault charge ---a misdemeanor. While such is certainly not a badge of honor, lets not get mela-dramatic and sanctimonious about it. And where did you get your info that Brent Shaeffer lacks intelligence? To the contrary, he has good grades and should do just fine in his classwork. He has learned and excelled in two different offenses in two years of playing college football. His first year at UT, he started as a true freshman, learning UT's offense and playbook in just a few weeks of fall camp. UM's Offensive Coordinator, Werner, is impressed with Brent and believes that he will be able to pick up the UM offense pretty quickly.
Compared to all the other off-season $#!+ that has gone on this year, with players all over the SEC getting into trouble for various offenses (just check out the SEC Outlaw of the Week thread above), not to mention the Starkville 6, who were charged with the same offense as BS (simple assault), it is really hard for me to even fathom any SEC fan having the audacity to make such a judgement against Brent Shaeffer.

Really you are being a fool about this...the kid GRADUATES from JUCO in one year and has to take extra hours to get here on time. That ain't grade problems fella, that is working your booty off to get somewhere and do something! He might not be the class citizen that Eli Manning was, but he LEFT Tennessee on his own right because of a fight with a guy that got him in a little trouble. I don't got a friend one that didn't in a fight at college! That doesn't mean myself of any of them lack character or moral fiber, so that judgement on Scheafer is off the wall.
He is no Eli Manning, but you just say and do whatever you can to be negative towards Ole Miss. You and GH22 should swap places as State and Ole Miss fans on this board!

In todays Commercial Appeal (Sports section), story of him "finally arriving." Photo was taken at the Memphis airport - traveled in his gangsta' attire. Hat cocked to the side, gold chain, etc...have fun with him Rebbies.

I'm not sure that anyone is expecting this guy to be the team leader right now....sure he is the starting QB and that does require leadership, but that doesn't necessarily make him the heart and sole of this team...I would say that there is only one guy for that role at this point and his name is Patrick Willis. Right now Schaffer is just a guy who expected to contribute heavily to the teams success and whether or not he takes those expectations and becomes a leader is yet to be seen, but will be in about four weeks.

Thank You! No more true words have been spoken....
Patrick Willis is the leader of this team! HANDS DOWN! Scheafer is just needed to provide some skill on offense, and be able to move the football a little bit!

You Ole Piss Homers make me sick!!!!! You s.o.b.s don't have anymore of a clue about this kid than anyone, but at this point in time you've labeled him as an Oxford legend. Everyone i've talked to that is on the outside of this conversation (that means not a huge Webel Homer) said this kid is very questionable. Everything that surrounds this kid is FISHY! You guys wanna praise him now, but my money is you'll be cusing his thug booty before the season's over.
