Bowfishing Hotspot???
Bowfishing Hotspot???
Anybody got any good suggestions on where I could go this weekend to stick a good number of fish with a bow???
The Mighty Mississippi is always a good place or any oxbows off it. Chotard is a good place. If you go to any of these places you better damn well keep up with where you are. There are thousands of acres of water to get turned around on. Believe me, when you are looking down at the water and concentrating on seeing a fish it is VERY easy to get turned around.
Venice, La. is also a very good place if you are wanting something eatible. Plenty of flounder and redfish (yes you can shoot redfish) Catfish in the 50 to 70 pound range. But, you have to be prepared and rigged up to shoot big fish down there. Can occassionally get on some Bullreds. The gar are from 2 to 100 pounds and very strong. You have to by a fishing license for 2 days if you are going to shoot all night. From dark until 12:00 AM is one day then from 12:00 AM until daylight is another. Speaking from experience. Also need to follow the limits.
Good Luck!!!!

IF THEY SHOW ORANGE, CUT'EM
Chotard/Alberlmarle was where I originally intended to go in the event that I coudn't find some other place to go. I had one guy mention that they go to Wolfe Lake around Yazoo city and have luck sometimes. Anyway, I just wanted to get a few suggestions before I decided to truck it on up to Chotard. The river is not in the lakes right now and personally, I just wanted to have a little change of scenery. Anyway, thanks for the help!

I've always had my best luck fishing during late Spring - early Summer, when the river is up in Chotard. I've never done any good this late in the Summer, but I only fish in the daytime.
I think you need the higher water conditions to make the fish more active. So if you can find those conditions anywhere this late in the Summer you should give it try. Calm backwaters off of any swollen river is always a good place to look for garfish.
Personally, I think it's too hot to do anything.
Good Luck.
