Here you can see the iridescent patch a little better. The females are really drab compared to males with a general grey coloring on the head and neck. If I catch another I'll show a pic, but I've been catching mostly adult males. The males have that blue head and pink breast.
Grommet, in all seriousness, we use a little wire, walk-in trap. They walk in but can't figure out (usually) how to walk back out.
Weimhunter, I don't have the banding data but I am pretty sure birds are being banded statewide. I'd like to see the recovery data, too.
I do know that MS met it's quota last year (something to do with banding x amount of adult and juvenile birds). This is the 4th year of the project and as of last year, about 3,400 doves had been banded in the state.
I'm not sure what the end goal is, but I think SB told me that if we band enough doves, we will go to 2 pintails a day and a 15 shell limit on WMA's and a spring elk season....or something like that.
