Schaeffer was fully qualified, academically, out of high school, and signed with UT.
BS started as a true frosh for UT until a shoulder injury sindlined him and opened the door for Ainge. BS did not regain starting job that fall.
BS was dismissed from the UT team due to a misdemeanor assault charge arising out of a fight. (MSU fans should be very familiar with these types of charges).
BS was not an academic casualty at UT. He was a good student.
BS transferred to the Calf. Juco. In this process, and playing football for the JUCO, he had a good bit of catching up in his course work to graduate from the JUCO and gain eligibility at a Div. 1 school.
He graduated from the JUCO this summer. He is also taking two correspondence courses that he needs to satisfy entrance requirements to UM (this is in addition to graduating from the JUCO). This is not an NCAA clearinghouse matter, but a UM matter.
Coach O had hoped that BS would have those courses completed by the start of the second summer session at UM, so that BS could enroll at UM and start working out on his own with some of the other players.
Apparently, BS will not be through with those correspondence courses in time to enroll for second semester summer school. But, it appears that he will most likely complete the courses well before time to report for fall practice. UM and Coach O and BS expect that BS will be eligible to play this fall.
BS does NOT have a grade problem. And for all intents and purposes, should be a good student at UM. He is bright and very talented.
Yes, its is a negative that he will not be on campus, with the correspondence courses behind him, working out and throwing to his receivers during the second session of summer school.
But, once he completes these courses, nothing would prevent BS from coming on down to UM and working out on his own with the players. He does not have to be enrolled in summer school to do that. But, Coach O does not want him to do so until after he has taken care of these correspondence courses.
So, that is it, in a nutshell. Let the hysterics begin.
