Miami scored 3 early. Rebs answered with 3 run shot by Wright to tie. Canes go back up by 3 again. Rebs answer with 4 runs and take the lead. Canes get two more in the bottom of the 6th. Rebs answer with a solo shot by Cogs in the top of the seventh to tie again at 8-8. In the bottom of the seventh, due to a couple of fielding errors by the Rebs, and an intentional walk of Weeks (who had blistered us all weekend), the bases were loaded and one run was walked in . Valencia of the Canes then hit a grand slam homer off of Reb closer G. White to make it 13-8. Rebs do not score in the top of the eighth. Canes add one more in the bottom of the eighth. Down 14 - 8, the Rebs load the bases with no outs in the top of the ninth, but the magic ran out, with only one more run crossing the plate. Canes win 14 --9.

Reb starter Lance Lynn only made it into the 3rd inning, when he was replaced by Will Kline (who only threw a couple of innings Sat.). Kline pitched pretty well for a couple of innings or so, and then was replaced by G. White, who finished the game.

Miami went to their top closer, Perez, when the Rebs were up 7-6 in the 6th inning. Miami's coach did this to try to stem the Rebs' momentum and to try to take the crowd out of the game a bit. It was a gamble that paid off for the Canes, as Perez was able to hold the Rebs pretty much in check from that point on and finished the game. It was Perez's longest outing of the season. Cogs solo shot off of Perez was the only long ball he had given up all year.

Rebs walked about 5-6 batters and hit a couple of batters (each hit batter was somewhat questionable, as one in particular crowds the plate and leads the nation in getting hit by pitches --clever way to intentionally take a hit and get on base). This , combined with 3 Reb errors and some other mental mistakes that did not get classified as an official errors, was pretty much the story of this game and the main reason the Rebs lost.

Miami got opportunistic hits, and did a good job of making contact, putting the ball in play, and putting pressure on the Reb defense. They are an excellent bunting team (which I know you will appreciate). They can play both "small ball" and can hit the long ball. Very good offensively. They were the better team this series and earned the trip to the CWS.
