Elon University is a 1-AA school from outside of Greensboro, NC. They play in the Southern Conference, which also includes Georgia Southern, Citadel, Furman, and Appalachian State (among others). Lest you think a 1-AA school is going to be a pushover, the Southern Conference is a pretty damned tough baseball conference.

They're riding a pretty good streak, winning 20 of their last 25. The Dogs drew a tough regional, but that's what happens when you're Team 64.

lower 14 div 1-aa only applies to football.. theres no div 1-aa in basketball or baseball.. and no.. i by no means would assume that they would be a pushover...

ha, good point, but i would prolly go with central private instead, hell, last years central private team and state would really be a good game.........
If it wasn't for bad luck then i would have no luck at all........

Elon will be no pushover, played several top teams during the season and hung with them, even won 2 or 3.

I'll get some stats and info when I get a chance. Here's some info on State's 25 man roster for the postseason.

The post-season roster is missing two injured Dogs, both pitchers. Righthanded starter Matt Lea will not throw again until next fall to rest the shoulder hurt back on April 18. And righthanded reliever Mike Valentine is out after developing shoulder soreness in mid-May.

5 OUTFIELDERS: LF Jeff Butts (56 games-56starts) .321, 7 HR, 43 RBI, 34 runs

CF Joseph Hunter (56-56) .279, 4 HR, 40 RBI, 41 runs

RF Andy Rice (45-27) .258, 3 HR, 17 RBI, 23 runs

RF *Mitch Moreland (43-32) .301, 5 HR, 22 RBI, 22 runs

RF Matt Richardson (35-14) .297, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 10 runs

7 INFIELDERS: 1B Brian LaNinfa (48-34) .295, 9 HR, 41 RBI, 9 doubles

1B Brad Jones (51-43) .240, 5 HR, 32 RBI, 8 doubles

1B Jeff Flagg (11-0) .100, 2 RBI, 1 double

2B Jeffrey Rea (56-56) .360, 2 HR, 22 RBI, 54 runs, 12 doubles

SS Thomas Berkery (54-54) .393, 7 HR, 43 RBI, 16 doubles, 45 runs

MIF Bunky Kateon (19-0) .333, 1 RBI, 2 runs

3B Michael Rutledge (41-35) .237, 4 HR, 26 RBI

4 CATCHERS: Edward Easley (56-56*) .357, 4 HR, 40 RBI, 17 doubles, 58 runs

Joseph McCaskill (48-32) .273, 2 HR, 26 RBI, 28 runs, 5 doubles

Wyn Diggs (34-7) .238, 4 RBI, 12 runs, 3 doubles

Brooks Lewis (6-0) .333, 0 RBI, 0 runs

6 RIGHTHANDED PITCHERS: Chad Crosswhite (19-2) 0-2, 4.42, 37.0 IP, 35 K, 16 BB

Josh Johnson (15-11) 4-4, 5.94, 66.2 IP, 45 K, 20 BB

Brett Cleveland (21-0) 1-1, 3.77, 31.0 IP, 27 K, 3 BB
