Bigwater, who was that? the only decommit so far that I was aware of committed to LSU (Ridley).

GH22, you are correct. Co-Eric (I like that name for some reason) was the 12th early commit for MSU. I counted him in my figures, even though Scout did not have him on the commit board yet.

Now GH22, what is the deal? I thought you said earlier in this thread that these early commits were no big deal, etc. Now that MSU is about to lead the pack, you still feel that way? Or are MSU's early commits more "special" than every one else's?

And it still isn't a big deal by any means necessary.

That's all you webs been talkin' about lately........commits to UM.........commits to UM........blah blah blah. We get one, and I post it........and it makes it look like I'm all crazy about early commits even then it still doesn't mean jack.

I thought this was interesting so i'll share it. In the world of recruiting, big stuff is made of how many stars a player has and its the ticket to success.
All of its true to some extent but it takes many variables to produce a consistant winner. So out of the last NLF how many draftees were Rivals Top 100 recruits. The answer may shock you, Its 0, Nada, zip, zero were a Rivals top 100 out of high school.

Big Gumbo, you may be right be I could have sworn that Ernie Simms from FSU drafted by Detroit was the consensus #1 player in the country out of high school. Also, Reggie Bush was a big time recruit.

Big gumbo, I think we all agree that recruiting is not an exact science ---there will always be busts and surprises from "sleepers". BUT, the teams that have the highest ranked recruiting classes year in and year out, just coincidentally usually are the teams that finish ranked the highest in the final national rankings.

To say that the ranking mean nothing is idiocy. To say that they mean everything is delusional.

Of all of the commitments, how many are eligible?

these kids have a full year of school and most (especially in Ms) don't even attempt their ACT until their senior year...... basically impossible to tell who's eligible at this stage in the game, unless they have a very high gpa and have already turned in a passing score on the ACT....

"there just isn't many of them"

I'd say that is right. Ya gotta decide if you are going to put together a competitive football team or an academic debate squad that can play a little football on the side, and then go with it. The first option will cause great anxiety with respect to recruits qualifying for admittance leading up to the fall. The second option will cause great embarrassment and anxiety during the fall. Choose your poison.

What about those who were seniors in February and signed their letter that month? They will have to take either the SAT or ACT prior to being able to enroll. Out of those that Ole Miss signed this past Feb. that intend to be on the field this summer for practice, how many are going to make it and how many will not meet their requirements? The school year is now at an end and there is only three options: 1) They made their requirements, 2) summer school or 3) Juco.

We won't know for sure if any of them actually qualify until the NCAA clearinghouse says so prior to fall practice.

Most are expected to qualify. UM oversigned by 3. And I think they expect approx. 3 to not qualify. Who those 3 will be will not be known until after the final summer school session ---we have a couple of jucos who are taking needed classes this summer ---if they pass, they should be eligible. There may be a couple who do not get cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse until right up until fall practive and or the first game of the season.

drakeshead.... i was referring to early commits for next years signing class as far as having a full school year to pull up their GPA........

like pomonk said, there's really only 1 of our commits from this past year who noone is really giving a chance, the rest all have a chance to qualify, the ones who noone thought would fall into that top category, early commits from last year (terry levy for example) have come a long way in the classroom and have put themselves in a position to qualify. Not saying he will or won't qualify, but he's put himself in a position to. Then you have others, Alan Walker, who were qualified, however, the clearinghouse did not approve of their ACT score because of a "jump" in grades, so he had to re-take it, which he did and got another passing score. So all things considered, unlike many said, the majority of the class should qualify, minus 2 or 3. Who those 2 or 3 are is anybody's guess, however, i do know who 1 is, who is currently not enrolled in school. He has to pass 3 summer school courses at community college to qualify. Can he do it ? sure, will he ? who knows. there's a few others still waiting on grades to come in, and others, from CC, who still have to graduate community college in order to enroll.

Speaking of not qualifying I hear that the kid from Terry that signed with State is very questionable and may not qualify.
