If the US enters Iran which I think could happen in the next few months we will see gas at about 6.00 a gallon. The US needs to push alternative fuels in this country. That will not happen because of "Big Oil". I have a 1962 VW bug I am fixin to break out to go back and forth to work. 8)

If gas gets to$5.00 per gallon our economy will grind to a swift stop. People who think gas prices only effect them at the pump are naive. The next time you are in a gas station, go look at the 20 oz. drinks. What was 99 cents last year is $1.29 now. Transport costs alone will make the price of everything you buy go up. It is simple economics. Of course, Lee Raymond at Exxon makes about $150 million per year or more, so he is not really too concerned. No man on the planet is worth that kind of money.

I agree completely. We can readjust our lifestyle a little to accomodate the higher gas but those living on minimum wage don't have the luxury. Several of my deadbeat high school friends are dealing with that. It's starting to just get absurd! The bad thing is it's not even cost-effective to downgrade to a smaller vehicle because you won't get what your gas hog is worth. Just glad I didn't get a V8 now  .

What are you smokin'? Have you seen how many Mexicans pile out of a work van? They are killing big OIL's vision of everyone owning gas gusslin' SUV's and trucks! THEY are stickin' to the big OIL companies! I think the Mexicans might be a little smarter than us on that. Our pride gets in the way of things such as carpooling or riding some kind of mass transit!

Go 3 miles out and you are in Internatonal waters for all intent and purposes. When it comes to a countries economic zone(fisherers, mineral rights, etc...) I think it is 100 nautical miles offshore, but when the two countries are so close together(Cuba and U.S. of A.) it may be split right down the middle. So, since Cuba is like 90 mi. south of Key West, 45 mi. may be about right! I would not blame Castro for doing it and doing some directional drilling toward FL. and sucking them dry since they are to chicken schit to allow drilling off of there coast with know reserves as someone pointed out!

I wonder what type of drilling capabilities Cuba has? I am sure Russia or China would love to help them in their explorations.

You guys are right about Cuba; the US exclusive economic zone is up to 200 miles from shore in almost all cases. But since we are 90 miles from Cuba they get 45 miles, we get 45 miles:

I don't know about "international waters" but it says the US has the exclusive right to control all infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration, or sanitary laws and regulations within 24 nautical miles of shore:

Cuba has just as much drilling capability as anyone else. They just have to hire an American drilling contractor.

Lee Raymond, CEO of Exxon, is receiving a $400 million retirement package. He also made $51 million last year in salary.

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=1841989&page=1

If you gave him a $100 million retirement package and he was generous enough to give back $300 million with gas at $3.00 per gallon, that is 100 million gallons of gas he could pay for. 100 million gallons of gas might make a nice dent in me paying almost $3.00 per gallon right now.

These people should be burned alive...
