They are bagging peanut seed for food plots. Pretty interesting, I have a brochure on them.
Here is some general info:
Planting dates May 7 - June 30
Peanuts are a legume, they don't need fertilizer (produce own Nitrogen)
Can spray Gramoxzone or 2,4DB over top for weeds
Plant 100 lbs per acre.
Plant in rows for best results, can be broadcast
24% Leaf Protein
41% Seed Protein
Corn has 8% protein
Few qoutes:
Peanuts contain high quality plant protein. When comparing peanuts to similar foods, peanuts have more protein than any other
legume or nut. - The Peanut Institute
A buck's hardened antlers are about 45% protein. Body growth occurs before and takes precedence over antler growth. So if protein is in short supply, the deer will have smaller antlers. In general, we believe a diet of 13-16 precent protein is optimal for antler deelopment. - http://www.huntingpa.com
We've never seen anything like it. - Bobby Culbertson, Tara Wildlife
Peanuts Anyone???
I will second that. I hunted a place last year and the farmer planted peanuts. The deer made the edge of the fields look like hawgs had been in there. When the peanuts are harvested there are so many left that it looks like they have not been harvested yet. The birds like them too.
