The original shares in Paw Paw Island went for less than $100,000.00 dollars. I guess the guy that wanted to sell his share $400,000.00 would do OK !

AT has retained the timber rights on the old Oak Ridge HC for the next twenty years. They cannot cut any fruit trees during that time. (bean trees, persimmon, pecan, etc...) They are only interested in the cottonwoods. After twenty years the timber will be turned over to the owners of the land.

Shiloh, that sounds great about the back way into the island. I'm a memeber of Old River I.. I think we border ya'll on the north end. That road really gets bad in the winter. Holler at me and we'll get together and do some duck hunting. Ben

Coach,
I haven't been over the property enough to know, but I think we are bordered by Halpino on the north side of our property by the camp. I know our property borders Old River chute where it connects with Paw Paw chute. We rode out there the other day with the biologist from AT. Correct me if I am wrong, but I assume that ORHC is in the same vicinity as the chute and I know where assumptions will get me. Definitely will try to work something out on the duck hunting.

Shiloh,

What about the loggers? I know they can usally only log during August-Nov. because of high water.

Not sure what the deal is with them. I know that ther is only a small portion of the land that would be able to be logged anyway. Most of it has had the merchantible timber is gone, but I can't answer your question. That would suck to have them logging in the middle of deer season. I don't guess it would bother the ducks.

Coach,
I have been in the gate adjacent to where the backwater levee that comes from Eagle Lake Road meets the main levee. I have also been to ya'lls gate. I think. Is it the one where there is a bad place in the road. That would be SW of the gate that you are saying is ours I believe. If that is the spot I was there the other day. This is where the camps from King's Point bring their house trailers in as it was explained to us. Our line runs west from there to the corner where Old River Chute and Paw Paw Chute meets. This is also where the blowout between those two channels is. Hope I have not confused you too much. I may be confused myself, but give me a season and I will be able to talk more intelligently.

"Is that the gate at the end of the road that runs downhill after you trun left at the 3rd persimmon tree past 'Elrods Country Grocery'?"

"No, it's the gate right after the big mudhole around the last bend just before you come to a big mudhole at the gate."

"Oh, THAT mudhole.....I got confused and thought you were talking about 'Old River'.....(of which there's only 330 gazillion clubs named 'Old River'...up and down the Mississippi River). Oh Yeah, I've been there, before......but only up to the gate.....Wait.....you ARE in Mississippi, right?"

......and ya'll don't think it's a little strange, that those folks charge ya'll so much money to get in those places. Go figure! BWAAAHAHAhaha!

....'Doesn't sound like you fellas are capable of findin' yo butt with both hands and a flashlight.....BWAAAAHAHAhaha!
I'm sure ya'll are a couple of good guys, though.......I just had to pick on ya'll a little.

Sorry Guys but I work for the "Timber Companies", and if you don't think they're greedy you're kidding yourself. The only reason they charged the extra $100 is because they didn't think you'd pay an extra $1000. Yea, thats right, and It pisses me off too....

Coach,
We are able to hunt the bar pits. We own everything that is not cleared for the actual levee. We also lease the levee from the board. That is a little confusing. I have not gotten all of the levee stuff figured out, but we have a five year lease on it. I hope there is some good hunting in those bar pits. Maybe you can enlighten me some?
