I heard that rifles are what people use to protect themselves from a creature called a wood goat.

Mallardchaser, have you ever seen the shed? A roach wouldn't even want to live there. We would be better off just buring it and camping out in the back of our trucks. Glad my truck is fully enclosed.

Look fellas - there aint nothing wrong with the shack...I have puked off of the front porch many times and it works just fine. I haven't spent the night in it 15 years. The rats have got us a wood pile going too....inside of the place. Looks like a beaver den.

I'll call the right folks boys...thanks for the heads up on the permits, etc.

I had to dig deep within the halls of my memory for that one...what a long ride. I think that we had just caught the Moby Dick of whisker fish before we headed back to the camp. I really remember being in a panic and smelling that fish water the whole ride in. Those were the days. [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

Got another angle for you to consider SoftCall...

You will definitely be impacting a wetland with your project and will be required to do wetlands mitigation which is expensive...Are you sure this will be worth the money? More often than not, ducks like what they like and it is very difficult to improve upon nature, especially in a wooded situation...In fact, I know of numerous instances where such a project messed up more than it helped...

I hunt just to the east of Steele Bayou right off Eagle Lake Road...My land floods 2 out of every 3 years...Flooded hardwoods and fields right off the Yazoo River, yet we have not seen any concentrations of ducks in that area during the past 4 or 5 years...
We also plant millet around the perimeter of a pond but havent had ducks lately...

Granted we used to have mass concentrations of duckweed on our pond and until this summer the water was so low that the carp were eating all of it, so maybe the ducks will return this year, but we mostly hunt deer on this tract now and hunt ducks elsewhere...

In fact I was talking with a fellow to the east of us a couple of miles down Eagle Lake Road...He said until 1996-97 he had one of the best duck holes around but since then the ducks just arent in the area...

Note that this coincides with when the state really started leaving food in the refuge at Mahannah...

I dont know where the Mahannah ducks go when the leave but I know they dont come our way...We dont even see them flying over us and we are no more than 5 miles due south of the refuge at Mahannah, between the Yazoo River and Yazoo Backwater Levee...

Maybe the ducks come your way to the west of Mahannah but I would be careful about spending big money unless I KNEW it would work...If you arent seeing LARGE concentrations of ducks when your hardwoods are flooded in a good acorn year, I would be very careful about this...

Hammer - thanks for the advice. I haven't hunted ducks in the area for about 4 years so I haven't seen what's been going on. I might give it a while before I sink any $'s into it.

Your place wouldn't be on King's Point would it? I grew up on that island. My family had a pretty good spread over there when I was growing up.
