I guarantee you that I for one would be focusing on the Rebels pulling down a #1 ranking, as opposed to keying in on any other team.

Biddle and Espy will be replaced, but all the wideouts on the team now are young and inexperienced. SEC DB's are gonna have a field day with em. Hopefully they can take care of the fundamentals and learn their routes. If they do that, they should be much improved for Schaeffer's final season. He will get them the ball.

I do believe that the Rebs are on the upswing. But next year is just the first step in that process.

In honesty, I believe MSU fans are wisely not putting much into the No. 1 ranking. Early in the season, been there before, just keep playing. No one is opting to talk about Ole Miss vs. being No. 1. Truth is, Bulldogs will always talk about UM and vice versa.

Ok, just for you Mudsucker ---USM sucked in football and basketball too --the whole state, except for the Fighting Okra, sucked in both sports.

Hope that makes you feel better.

I think the OL at UM this season will be much improved over last season. And we will have more weapons on offense ---more than just Mico ---BJGE at TB, R. Lane at TE, M. Green at WR or HB, and Brent Shaeffer at QB. I'll give my final prognostications later in the summer, but for now I think the offense will be much better, barring key injuries. I look for the Rebs to be able to run the ball well enough to win all of our non-conf games. On top of that, I think we will have enough firepower to win enough SEC games to reach a 6-7 win season (we play 12 games next year). I think we will struggle with the teams in the SEC who have top defenses that force you to be balanced. By then, hopefully our passing game will have come along well enough to be more balanced. Those are my early thoughts. I don't think 6-7 wins next season is unrealistic. I think we beat Memphis, Missouri, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Vandy and Northwestern State on sheer talent. I think Arkansas and MSU are winnable SEC games and "swing games" on our schedule. Out of the remaining games with UGA, Ala., AU, LSU, we might pull out one upset to offset an unexpected loss to one of the teams in the first group I mentioned. Winning 6-7 games next season would not necessarily mean we are a "good" football team, but it would be a step in the right direction.

I disagree po monkey If we(MSU) or You(UM) win 6-7 games next season it will be a good year. Lets face it the only team in Ms that has been decent at football the last few years was USM but I am not much of a football fan so I dont keep up with it much. just my 2cents worth

I'll be honest I sure aint puttin much faith in this #1 ranking and I've probably been to more games this year than 95% of state fans. I don't know why but we just seem to put it together....nothing fancy, not overpowering teams, we're just gettin it done. What does scare me about this team is those little rants the other teams have had against our pitchers....lets face it I've seen MSU pitch out of some deep holes inning after inning this year...don't know how well it will work in the SEC but we'll see. I'm ususally not a pessimist, but we got a bullseye on us from here on out, just hope we keep our momentum and get a regional and a showing in the final series.

yes, a "good" year, but not necessarily a "good" football team

I think UM's schedule is favorable for a 6-7 win season with just an average team. We will be a "good" football team when we start winning all of our non-conf games against lesser opponents, and winning enough SEC games to be in the hunt for division titles and overall SEC titles. Barring a miracle, that won't happen for UM in 2006. Not enough hosses or seasoning yet.

Well hill hunter I would say most of the people through out the state never keep up with MSU baseball until this year when the rankings came out. I myself am a die hard MSU baseball fan I make all the home games and alot of the away games and like you said we have just been playing good ball these last few games, and we all know that baseball is a game of inches but I believe that our pitching is as good has it has been in years, our outfield is as strong as it can be esp. if we keep hunter healthy, our infield is solid but we are leaving to many men on base. The rankings mean nothing but braging rights now b/c all that matters is to play well in the SEC, granted we need to play good in all games b/c it will help our chances of hosting a riegonal(sp) Like you said the ranking means nothing and we have a long road ahead of us. The bottom line is we are just playing team baseball

i would disagree with you duckkiller and say that lots of people keep up with msu baseball way before this year and the recent ranking..

However; I'm sure there has been a certain amount of apathy towards msu baseball.. its really because theres only one thing left for this program to do and thats to win the c.w.s...

the apathy is due in part to our own success .. fans and the public in genreal expect msu to be in a regional or hosting a regional almost every year...

a 41-20 record and a trip to the regional is just ho-hum for msu..
kinda like the braves winning the division every year..

i'm still not sold on how good this team is..

don't worry gh22 has already jinxed us.. talkin bout how we got students on frat row that could be um's fri night starter and all that jazz....

good karma thats the key

MSU football is a big ol ? Who in the world knows. If we win great if we don,t Oh Well.I personally think we will be better than last year. The thing that cracks me up is that all the UM fans I know really will be upset if UM doesn,t win now.I think you guys will be better but,the turn around alot of these guys expect would really suprise me.If they suck again next year they will be calling for O,s head on a poll.If they win "We told ya,ll Bulldogs he was the man"!!

I remember a jersey with Omaha written on it from a certain team ( ) a couple of years back........jinxed them for sure. Came to Starkville and the doubt re-entered their mind. I agree that the NC is all MSU needs to go along with the rest of the great years the program has had.
