It looks like this might be a good time for someone to rebuild The Landing!

According to JT and Dave this has been done (smokin ban) in others states such as Ca.. The owners of bars and some restraunts began to notice a major decrease in patrons so to get around this law of no smoking in a Public Place they began charging 1 or 2 dollars to join there private club and therefore allowed smoking.

Now we all know that Flo and Eddies was an accident??? It just happened to be at the time that the Hunt club was opening up and Flo's was seeing a drop in patronage.

Lets see ... you could go spend 10 and drink all night at the Hunt Club or you could spend over 50 at Flo's.

God knows I spent my fair share of money in there.

F & E was burnt down for collection of insurance, nothing else, nothing more.

I lived in the cotton district while I was at state and could see the fire from the house.

Texas arresting people in bars for being drunk

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday.

The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission's Carolyn Beck.

Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness, Beck said.

The goal, she said, was to detain drunks before they leave a bar and go do something dangerous like drive a car.

"We feel that the only way we're going to get at the drunk driving problem and the problem of people hurting each other while drunk is by crackdowns like this," she said.

"There are a lot of dangerous and stupid things people do when they're intoxicated, other than get behind the wheel of a car," Beck said. "People walk out into traffic and get run over, people jump off of balconies trying to reach a swimming pool and miss."

She said the sting operations would continue throughout the state.

WTF ... that is crazy

I would have to question the public drunkness statute being applied in a privatized setting. Next they will come in your front door of your house and arrest your ass for being drunk.

It is Texas - so they do what they damn well please.

I agree with the $50 at Flo's. It adds up quick. Most of the time we simply went to an apartmant with a cooler full of beer and steak for the grill. This is one of the reason why I do not enjoy drinking at bars and food places. I just can't get past spending that much on ONE beer.

Penny Pitcher Nights were always fun . . . at least I hope they were fun, I really don't remember much about those nights.

Ricks - - It was genius for them to start the bus which takes patrons back to their places.

Yes I'm talking about the Zoo Bus. It made the rounds to the local apartments.

I've even ventured to the Dark Horse Tavern from time to time. Pretty scary place in dark, cool way

You missed out! Thursday nights (i think) were .25 well drinks. The scenery was usually not to bad either. Usually they were not the kind of chicks that you took with you to church the next morning. And sometimes thats a good thing.
