Bigwater,

I am not saying that his rep should be hurt, I am just saying that it has been hurt. It is LSU logic. In the 90s, Skip was a god. Now people question everything he does, especially his loyalty to Smoke. Is this right in light of all of the other great things going on right now at LSU, probably not. However, it is LSU and people like to worry about stuff. As Saban called it, "catastrophy syndrome." People still question the hiring of Les Miles. People question why we should knock down the Box and build a new "Skip Bertman Memorial Stadium." If you are an LSU fan, it is in your nature to question things and many have it in their nature to find a scapegoat when we don't win the NC in football and baseball every year. Skip has become the scapegoat. If you live in BR, or have lived in BR recently, you will know what I am talking about with reference to Skip. I personally like him and think he has done a heck of a job. If you were to take a poll in BR, I would say that greater than 70% of the people have a lesser opinion of him now than five years ago.

Bianco

If they fire Smoke, Bianco will be on the first bus to Baton Rouge......he would actually have a chance to win a NC in Baton Rouge. The biggest reason to leave is the scholarship situation. I know you have heard it before, but it's killing the Mississippi Schools. Sure State is having a great year, Ole Miss had a great year last year......but, when other states have Lottery, Hope, and other scholarship money for anyone with a 3.0, the playing field is not level. Coach Polk said recruiting at Georgia was a dream. If you look at LSU, Georgia, SC, etc. they will have 25 people on scholarship because of the previously mentioned programs.......Mississippi schools have 11.7. What if our football programs only had 40 scholarships trying to compete against other SEC schools.....that's what's going on. That's also is what is so amazing about State being ranked #1 in baseball, with half the scholarships as the rest of the country.

GH - Even though your a Bulldog, I disagree with your commment on hitting coaches. Coach Polk has always said there has only been one player's swing that he did not have to break down (do nothing with), and that was Palmeiro's.

Well, I've played against several players back in high school that ended up at miss state. I've watched them their whole career while they were at msu, while some are still there. Their hitting technique is the same as it was their senior year.....stance, approach at the plate, everything. The same goes for a couple of pitchers also.

You're either born with the ability to hit, or you aren't, simple as that. There's nothing that bothered me more when I was coming up through the years playing ball was a coach trying to change my hitting. I'm hitting line drives, putting the ball in the gaps, and they're wanting me to get the ball up in the air for whatever reason. Quote on quote "hitting" coaches and take signs were the ire of my baseball career.

Since I was the best contact hitter, he wanted to also make me his best hr hitter or try to be. We did have a short porch in right and right center, and I was better going opposite field, but heck I would've needed to add 30-40lbs to my body weight to even have a chance.

Then after I graduated from HS I bumped up to 185 within a few months, just which I had that weight in HS.

That's why I didn't pay any attention to him.

Nor did I pay attention to him when he would give me a take sign on a 1-1 count with a fastball coming down the pipe.

Well, here's what happened. It took our school years and years to finally find a "baseball" coach. They still refused to pay him decent money so he leaves us like 2 weeks before the season starts to go work for Farm Bureau, which I don't blame him cuz he's making twice as much.

After he left the two asst's took over, and they didn't know jack shat.

As for take signs, it's was repetitous. First pitch take, fastball down the pipe. Second pitch swing away, ball outside. 1-1 take, fastball down the pipe. 1-2 is guaranteed swing away to guard the plate, curve or slider, whiff strike 3.

I hated take signs with a passion, especially when I knew what was coming and where it was going, cuz I was a pitcher too and knew what they were thinking also.

I got my booty chewed out and eventually benched because of it, but those runs getting put on the board sure looked good when I was at the plate.

I'm sorry...but respectufully you don't know what you're saying....You make a good point about the scholly's being an issue, but there's more to it than that when it comes to leaving, Bianco will not be heading to Baton Rouge until or unless the following things happen...

1. Salary for baseball at LSU beat it at Ole Miss
2. Equally if not more important, he is given the camp and appearance money in Baton Rouge he is at Ole Miss (right now Skip get it ALL in BR)
3. LSU commits to the program from the AD office the way Boone has to Bianco....Right now Skip still runs the program...Boone lets Bianco run it all
4. Skip Bertman is a non-factor (in whatever capacity, not to sound morbid)

and if you think Laval was choosen for no reason, your nutz. Smoke sits back and plays Skip's fiddle. Mike Bianco and Jim Wells are big time coaches and they know it and Skip knows it and he ain't gonna put anybody in that dugout that trumps him....

some good agreeable points there..........bianco is making waaaaaaaaay more than alot of coachs right now........now does lsu have the money to give him that much.......yes........are they going to???????well i dont know if i did i wouldnt be right here right now...........i think he could do alot of good things down there...............he type of recruiter he is( bad ass, and yes i dont like ole miss but he is a hell of a recruiter) and the name on the front of that purple and yellow shirt..........that would be a combo that i would not want to really see being a alabama fan and likein mstate baseball............
If it wasn't for bad luck then i would have no luck at all........
