Since opinions are pretty readily given here I was wondering what is a good handgun to buy. I was looking at something fairly safe and in an automatic. Not really sure about brand or caliber. All advice is welcome.

I would say buy a H&K USP 40 cal. My second choice would be a glock 23 40 cal.

I think first thing you have to do is figure out your budget. How much do you want to spend?

Buy used is advice #2. There'll be a gun show next weekend in Jackson. I'll be there Sunday looking around if you want some honest opinions.

Get your carry permit for a no worry lifestyle.

For something safe to carry that shoots like a dream and carries high capacity, look at the Para Ordinance LDA. It comes in a 14 and 12 shot .45 that you can get mags for. The LDA trigger setup is wonderful. It is a double action, so it is very safe to carry, but the trigger is so light and smooth and has a truly suprise break. It is a little pricey, but well worth the money. If you are looking to carry the 12 shot is more the way to go. They even make a 7 and a 6 shot very manageable carry gun. Surplus City here in Clinton has an indoor range that you can go to and rent a lot of different guns so that you can try them out before you buy them.

I have shot the gun bigbear is talking about, very nice, it will probably be my next purchase. Excellent trigger set up.
