gunsmith ?
Anybody had any experience with a gunsmith in the Memphis/Southaven area?
The one that I used last was at Whitten Arms. I called there today and the message said out of business at that location.
I have to get a stock cut down and recoil pad put on for my 10 yr old

Whitten Arms # 901-386-7002, is that the one you have? Which was in Ol Lodge outfitters, Whitten arms or Classic Arms. I thought Whitten Arms was still in business but I have been wrong before. I thought they were at the Hunting & Fishing show today.

Ed Mason and son are 2 of the best. If you would get a Benelli you would not need a gunsmith.

Yes, Whitten Arms did go out of business. While Ed Mason is a good gunsmith, he is usually very busy. Another excellent gunsmith in the Memphis area is Phil Colly. He is the gunsmith @ Guns & Ammo, I know alot of people do not like the staff at guns & A'holes, but Phil is not affiliated with them. He only uses their store as a location for his business. DU4U the last time your BENELLI BROKE Phil is the one who fixed it when you gave it to Earl to bring to Memphis. I would guess that any $2 gunsmith could fix a Benelli though, due to the volume of broken ones readily available to work on! ( That one was for you Delta) Hows it going down there?

Harley didn't tell the whole story. That old Benelli SBE was about 7-8 years old,has been handled so much it wore the factory finish down to shiny, was military parkerised & has just about wore that off, has broke more ice than most boat paddles, has logged more miles riding in the floor or behind a seat than some people, has probably fired more than 25 cases of 3 1/2 shells and closer to 100 cases of target and dove loads and it broke an extractor. I never knew who Earl got to fix it though, he just told me a friend of his. You are also right about Mason"s being busy as that is why I let Earl take it. That guy said he would make an extractor for it out of something that would never break and I guess he was right. Never have had another problem with it. Never had to buy a Benelli so I didn't mind spending $40 for the extractor. Where were you & Earl today? He called and said yall would try to come down & shoot this evening? Oh yeah I did have to clean that Benelli for it's 7th or 8th season

He never said anything about coming down there to shoot. We did go out to our gun club and bust a few this afternoon, wish he would have said something I would have like to come down there. Shot a couple rounds of 5-stand, 1 trap, 1 sporting clay. (got a lot of gun cleaning to do tonight.)

Thanks Harley...I am going to try to track Phil down this week (the dove shooting is coming soon and I have to get the boy fixed up).
Delta Duck, that's funny, I like a guy who is proud of his weapon. I don't need a gunsmith for my gun. It's a Beretta (which in Italian means "shoots way better than Benelli, but for $400 less". I bought my son a used Rem 1100 from a pawn shop as a starter gun and need to shrink the stock and add a pad.
Ya'll have fun...time to start digging out the gear and getting ready. December will be here before you know it. In the meantime, I'll be lubing up the gun, throwing some clay targets, shooting doves, and sniffing spent hulls. The wife just loves the smell of wd40...

Beretta owns Benelli. Benelli guns break all the time. Their owners just have to much sticker shock to admit it Why do you think the sure cycle system was developed????

Hey Harley,
I went over to see Phil...I recognized his face as soon as he came around the corner. He was the one I was trying to find at Whitten Arms...I just couldn't remember his name. I guess when Whitten Arms closed up shop, he moved his business over to Guns and Ammo on Summer.
Anyhoo...for anyone else that needs gunsmith work, this guy does an awesome job...and a nice feller too.
