$50/acre deer lease!!!
In what be a new level of insanity a small group bid on a 16th section in Yazoo County adjacent to their large tract of land.
They bid $22,000 for it and of course got it.
Just when you thought duck leases were out of control...

$50/acre deer lease!!!
Wow, Most of the deer leases in my area go for $8 to $20 per acre. Being 16th Section land, the leaser, in most cases, will have to pay the taxes each year on the lease, so the price per acre is more than $50 per acre. I bet 40 years ago, land adjacent to the 16th section could have been bought for that price. Now a days it is what ever the traffic will bare when it comes to the price someone will pay for a lease. More power to them.

$50/acre deer lease!!!
If they got the whole section it would have been $34.37 per acre. Or did they just get 440 acres out of it? Wether it was the whole section or not,$30-50 an acre is getting a little rediculus on a deer lease.

Must have given up DUCK HUNTING !!!
$50/acre deer lease!!!
$30-$50 dollars an acre is outrageous for ANY lease! This goes to show you the direction hunting is going. It's soon going to be where the only place the average Joe has to hunt is on public land, and we all know what lies ahead on that subject. The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer.
$50/acre deer lease!!!
I'm with RB ....that's crazy. They must have money to burn but then word gets out about it & other landowners decide they should be getting more for their land & lease values continue to rise. Next thing you know average folks have no option other than public hunting which is frequently overcrowded already Dad always said a
fool & his money are soon parted

Was that tract on Lake George just west of Satartia? If so, the deer hunting on that tract is very good and the guys with the surrounding duck holes have deep pockets.
The good news is that the Yazoo County school system will benefit handsomely from their hunting lease payment. The bad news is that some local guys had leased that land for a long time and it meant a lot to them but most of us will never have a chance to hunt land that good (if I am right about the tract in question).

It wasn't the tract West of Satartia on Lake George. I know the guys with the duck holes around that particular section and they are not interested in the lease.
That is a pretty crafty reply though Hammer.
When does that new lease begin anyway?

Whine, whine, whine! It's a free country boys. This is one of the characteristics of a capitialist society. Would you like the government to redistribute the wealth?

Go24, you obviously dont see the problem. I used to work with a biologist and we managed some of the finest camps in this state as well as every surronding state. The problem with alot of these wealthy individuals is they never have enough.
For example: (I am not calling out names)
We had a client that owned land in Madison County, little over 3000 acres. Some of the finest hunting you ever saw. Just he and his friends hunt it. Well in the two years I worked with this biologist he bought another 2200 acre tract for himself to hunt, and approximately 80,000 acres in Texas so he could bird hunt. There is no way 1 man can hunt all that, (hold with me now you hear) and I personally heard him tell our biologist one time that he would bid on every tract of land that came up from his property to Yazoo City alon the big black, and I promise you he has the money to do it too.
Now thats greed and there many other rich individuals doing the same thing, I know he has the money and the right to do it but at the same time his greed is killing an American tradition. People wonder why hunter #'s are declining, its b/c they dont have a place to hunt. These folks dont have a place to take their kids, grandkids, and their neighbors kids etc. hunting anymore. Thats whats going to be the downfall of hunting folks GREED.

$50/acre deer lease!!!
Hey peewee, I'm from madison and know exactly who you are talking about (not gonna name any names either) But you are right about that. THAT GUY IS THE BIGGEST peepee that I know. I hope I see him stranded on the road somewhere and he wants a ride.
$50/acre deer lease!!!
Peewee, I agree, greed is the problem. I just wanted to make the point that the only cure is new laws from uncle sam (or of course, a new heart in these wealthy guys!!).
Lord knows the govt. intrudes enough already.
By the way, could it be greed in us poor folks that causes us to get our drawers in a wad when some guy blabs about where he saw some ducks on public land?
Finally, if I ever own 80,000 acres I'm going to invite all the MSDUCKS gang over for a day of duck hunting.

Hey MoDux:
In the words of CCR...
"It aint me, I aint no Fortunate Son..."
I wish I had the lease on the 16th section on Lake George but I dont...If that aint it, then where is the 16th section in question?
As for the guy buying up the Big Black River
tracts and the land in Texas, he is in the process of destroying a fine hunting area along Hwy 463 in Madison to build yet another subdivision...These guys are all the same, no matter what they say, its all about the dollar and the ego...Got news for them:
A- Its easier for a rich man to pass through the eye of a needle than to make it through the gates of heaven...
B- You cant take it with you when you go.
