West nile virus invades NE MS.
Well its gotten here in Monroe and over in Pontotoc county no cases yet thank goodness but birds have been found with the virus, according to the Tupelo paper. Some folks @ work saw it on the news last night on channel nine. Just thought I would post this for ya'll that havent heard it yet. It is here in MS. I was tellin a friend of mine @ work about it this morning and he said that he had found 2 dead birds in his yard. His wife told him to have them checked he said that he thought it was stupid but now he wished he had it done. Another guy said that he had heard of some horses testing positive for it here in the state. I guess I'll invest in some skeeter dope for me and the family. heck with this around I might have too invest in the skeeter dope company. Hope none of you catch it. A friend of mine lost a horse. Don't know it it was because of the virus yet. He lives north of Belzoni.

Big Lou,
I called my vet and from what I now know about the West Nile Virus is that it is a neurological disease that from as far as they know can affect any animal. The signs of the disease would be the animal having trouble walking, falling over, acting drunk,...
There is a vacine out for West Nile but the vacine can only be used in horses. From what I have heard, one horse has died from the disease around Belzoni and there are three horses that have it in the Greenville and Belzoni area.
I will try to talk to the vet somemore later tonight and let you guys know what I findout.

Here in Slidell, we are the center of this out break. Several people have died, mostly older folks. On the news tonight it said that mem were more likely to get it than women. The virus attacks the brain and the symptoms are flu like.

You gotta love the Delta at times like these. There's a mosquito to every square inch of airspace...I say bring DDT back.

Fellas,
I called and talked with my vet this morning and he said that he has heard of a case where a horse contracted the West Nile Virus and died and a few days later the dog on that same farm died. He went on to say that it was never confirmed that the dog died of the West Nile Virus. He informed me that he has not seen any cases of dogs that he thought were West Nile and he has not heard from anyother vet saying that they had seen a dog with a case of the virus.
If I hear of anything else I will let everyone know. You all be carefull.
