I slide them down my nose just a little bit and the heat escapes out the top. No more fogging.

Maui Jim titanium model # MJ-502-23, you can't go wrong with these. Only down fall is the price.

Wave 580 is the best lens I have ever seen. It's expensive but well worth it. Of course I have about five pairs, not all 580 because offshore I like having the mirror coatings to help. All of Costas lenses are good however, but I think the 580 is the best.

Costa Del Mar

Postby msudog » Wed Mar 08, 2006 4:04 pm

I have two pairs of them and love them. I will not buy anything else. My two year old knocked mine off onto ceramic tile and broke themone time. I sent the back to Costa and they replaced the lens for $35. I also sat on a pair one time and broke the side and they fixed that I dont remember the exact amount but is was very cheap. This past Christmas they put them on sale at Acadamy for $65 for exframes the day after Thanksgiving. I went down there and bought three pairs of them. They had the glass lenses and all, they were normally about 150. I gave one pair to my father-in -law and the other two to my brother.
My dad put on mine one time and he had to have a pair the next fathers day. Even my wife owns a pair. They are the best glasses made. :D

I was introduced to Costa del Mars in 1987 when I was a deckhand on a yacht. They are awesome. I have used them for so long my eyes have become very sensitive. Even when it is cloudy I wear them. Has anyone else experienced this or my eyes just puzzyfied?

I tell ya what, I must look silly to folks when I'm driving in the rain cause I have my sunglasses on at all times. You can see much better through the haze than without. Jeff can you hook a brotha up? I don't mind helping out the little guy at all. just as soon get them from you if I can do that...

I cant find anyone in Jackson that carries the Costa 580's. The Maui glass appears better to me than the Costa 400, inside the stores anyway!!!

Anybody know where I can look at some Costa 580s?

I have been wearing good glass so long now, I'm like a tabacco head without a pack when I can't find them.

Jeff is there any truth to this? I work outside a lot, and I just don't go without em.

And, yes in certain light rain conditions you can see much better with them on than without.

When you wear sunglasses continuously your eyes definetly beome accustomed to it. THe cornea and the lens are serve many purposes, but one of their most important is to filter out UVA and UVB light. When you put sunglasses on they definetly filter out the ultraviolet light. What also happens is behind darker lenses, your pupils dilate a little bit more. WHen you wear sunglasses all the time and then forget them in the truck at the boat launch (I hate it when I do that!) or venture off without them, your eyes go back to filtering ultraviolet light and your pupils go to a smaller size becuase of the increased sunlight present. These two factors combined when you aren't used to it is why the sun seems so much brighter when you take your glasses off.

As far as wearing them when it is overcast and or raining, yes in certain light conditions colored lenses can definetly help you see better. Amber, copper, or brown definetly helps you to see better in these conditions.

A few other awnsers to questions, I am a dealer for costas, so I can definetly get anything you need from them if you would like, just let me know what you want or pm me and I can help you pick the right lenses for your daily activites.

For broken Costa products, one you can bring them to a dealer and they should be able to send them back to costa for you, if you aren't near a dealer then contact Costa Del Mar at 1-800-447-3700.
FInally the high quality lenses we were speaking of are called Wave 580.

I agree that Costas are the best sunglasses out there. My problem is with the service after the sale. Being in the pond management business I am on the water 4 out of 5 days during the week. I will pay what is necessary to get a very good pair of glasses. I owned a pair of Costas for about 5 years and loved them. One day the lens cracked after I left it in the truck. Took it to the dealer in B'ham and replaced it no problem.

Same pair of glasses a year later and the same thing happens. I take them to a dealer in Jackson and they tell me to send them back to Costa. I send them back. In the meantime I go ahead a purchase another pair because of the outstanding quality and excellent customer service the first time. About 2 weeks after I sent them in to be repaired, someone from Costas called and said the glasses were not covered under warranty. She and I had a heated argument. I tried to be civil. She questioned my ability to grasp the concept of something being covered under warranty. It kind of went downhill from there.

That being said the glasses are great but don't expect much in the way of customer from Costa themselves.

Jeff, if you could shed some light on why they refused to honor the warranty I would be greatful. I love the glasses but just can't purchase another pair because of the poor service I recieved the second time. I can understand not covering the glassed because they were stepped on but that was just normal wear and tear (IMO).

Pondman, I can't speak for the company, but we haven't had any problems with customer service with Costa. They have always taken care of any problems any of our patients have had. I can certainly try and check into it for you and see why and let you know.
