Last Night's Whisling Wings!

Postby QUACKADDICT » Wed Jul 31, 2002 12:06 pm

Is there anybody out there who could not believe that there is a God after last night's show? I have never been so struck by the beauty of God's creation as I was last night. The flooded timber, the beautiful Labs, the thousands of greenheads, and the obvious friendships of the guys who were hunting. I didn't catch who produces the show, but I am sure of one thing, they have got it right! I felt like I was right there with them. Once I even thought I could feel the coolness of the water on my legs, but it was only the glass of tea that I spilled on myself while trying to twist myself into position to shoot the duck on the screen. Great show!!

When you said flooded timber, beautiful Labs... I couldn't help but think of the awesome Mississippi Bottomlands.... but then I got to thousands of greenheads and I knew right then it wasn't Mississippi... at least not last year where I hunted !

You're right peewee. I just didn't want to admit it! RB, I saw plenty of ducks when I was out there last year. The problem was that there was so much water, you couldn't concentrate any birds.

You're right about the water. Out of the 1000 acres on the lease I hunted last year, approximately 3/4 was underwater... and that was just on our 1000... I can imagine how it was everywhere else.

Well I saw the the show and being out here in the "High Desert Hills" of Texas, it made me get out my frequent flyer miles and prep. a trip to Marks, or Money Mississippi this year !! My wife of 11 years now knows that I am addicted to waterfowl, shoadow grass, black labs, oily rags, broken decoys, holey waders, ugly camo boats, crazy friends, uh, ok, they say I gotta go sit in the corner now...... It was bad last year, but I'm looking forward to this year's trip. I hope I'll be able to go. My well went dry last week and I had to buy a new pump and sink it 20 ft. deeper in the well. The old water mark was 36 ft. above the old pump! Since it usually costs about $1000.00 for me and my son to come out there for three days,I don't know if I'll make it this year or not due to the cost of the well work. If I don't, I'll have to settle with watching WW on the Outdoor Channel!! Keep your fingers crossed for me!!! GH22, the guide costs $100/day/person. For two people (my son and I), thats $600 for three days. The no-tell motel is about $160. Gas to Ms and back to SC, about $100. Food for three (thats me and one 16 year old boy) for a week, about $125. Two MS OOS hunting licenses w/ state duck stamps, $75. Shotgun shells, about $50. The smile on my son's face when the birds start falling in the blocks, PRICELESS!!!! So, lets see how much I've spent. Hummmm, looks like $1110.00 and I haven't tipped the guide yet!! I was in and out the other night when the show came on, so i recorded it. Just got through watching it again, and there was one thing that just stood out from the rest, ROBO DUCK. There was no need for a robo duck in any one of those hunts, the way those ducks were wanting to come.

I really enjoyed the show too and got a real kick at how poorly Kenneth (formerly of Primos)could hit a duck.
