Field & Stream list of "Best Guns ever"

Postby duck warrior » Mon Feb 20, 2006 9:32 pm

readers choice top of the list for Gun Nuts:

Browning Citori
Rem 870
rem 1100
rem 870
& benellie SBE

Says SBE has not been around very long, but already one of most desired shotguns by gun nuts. Rem has been around so long that it is thought of as a classic.

Rem 870 was the most used by duck and Turkey hunters and voted best all around shotgun.

This was a survey the completed, so naturally the gun most people had was also voted best all around gun.

It looks like retired guns are on the list. I can't believe the Win Model 12 didn't make that list... best pump ever made.

What's wrong with your gun?? I had one that was probably the best duck gun I've ever owned PERIOD. Occasionally it would have trouble ejecting a cheap dove load....what were those old shells that didn't have any brass...some kinda foreign name best I can remember???? Those.

It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Had trouble ejecting a lot of different types of shells. It would hardly ever eject 3.5 inch unless they were remington shells. I like shooting supremes and the 3 inch would eject fine for the most part but my 3.5's had lots of problems. I thought the gun just was not broken in but I shot a case and a half and it got better but it is still having some jams.

YES. these new models SUCK........the ole wingmasters were hard HARD to beat.....the new rigs are a CHEAP knock-off of what was once a great gun, BUT, i still shoot em.........old habits are hard to break at times i suppose.....

rebeld - Is your shell is not fully ejecting or not clearing the chamber? This should be simple fix for a gunsmith, without shipping it to Italy.

Softcall - The only "performance" issue I've noticed is that the Express rust much more easily due to the cheapie finish.

As an avid 870 fan and having shot the same Express magnum for the last ten years, I am here to tell you that there is a huge difference between the Wingmaster and Express. The Wingmaster is much smoother and the finish is much better. The Express rusts much too easily IMO. Here's a pic of my rust-ridden Express after what was probably about a week without a cleaning. Still shoots though...

I hunted hard with Rebelduckaholic all year and am baffled by his 870 problems. But whatever it was, it must have been contageous, because mine did it a couple of times too. Never done it before. I figured it was shells with mine, usually cheapo Estates that had probably gotten wet and swollen a bit. When his wouldn't eject Winchester Supremes, I was out of answers.

WHAT WHAT nay say's on the 870 huh? :D I had two 3.5 express hated both of them! jamming mofos the hulls stuck in the breech and the ejector would just rip off the brass..........The Nova IMHO is a much better pump it feels like a piece of firewood compared to an 870 but never a jam...........I also agree the old wing masters are hard to beat I have a wingmaster magnum 870 that is cherry mint shoot it dove hunting some love that shotgun.......

Sounds like a short shuck to me. You know you can still buy the wingmaster it just cost more. If Rem has the two guns and one cost 200 hundred less which do you think will be better?

I have hunted with an 835 since I started pretty much. It's not a short shuck.

I am debating on buying a new Wingmaster...should I or shouldn't I? What say you?
When I think of something clever to say, I'll put it here.

The true " Best" guns wont be on a list, and, probably wernt mass produced, and, dang sure cost ALOT of money. I love my Nova for dux and geese...kicks hard and kills em dead  8) 8) 8)
