In case you missed it, which apparently a lot of people did, Gumbel delivered a commentary on the Winter Olympics on his HBO show. "Count me among those who don't care about them and won't watch them. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world's greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention," said Gumbel.
Unbelievable that he can get away with a racist statement like that on his show, especially in light of what happened to Rush Limbaugh when he made his comments about McNabb on MNF.
I don't watch a lot of the winter games, but not because of any racial motives ---I simply do not enjoy watching figure skating and some of the obscure sports in the Winter Games, like curling, etc. Just imagine what a white sports commentator would go through if he were to make a statement that he does not watch the Summer Games because of the lack of white athletes in track and field. That person would be fired.
Gumbel clearly went out of his way to be offensive. His HBO show is not a live show, so his comments made it past the editors/producers of the show, and Gumbel would have had plenty of opportunity to redact those comments before the show was broadcast. His arrogance in making such remarks, without fear of retribution, is stunning. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Mfume, Farrakan, and other black racists do not get called to the carpet, because people view them as unstable anyway, they are exercising their free speech rights, and they are not employed by a public entity or the federal government. Gumbel is a national sportscaster employed by HBO, watched by many who are not black. I would guess that HBO's parent company is a public company, traded on the stock exchange. And, this is somewhat of a first since this involves the sporting world, as opposed to purely politics. Like I said, it is unbelievably arrogant.

Don, I don't like racism from anyone ---white or black or brown or yellow, etc.
But, I must confess, that as of late, I am slowly starting to develop a negative perception of ALL ragheads, which is bleeding over from my strong dislike for radical fundamentalist islamic terrorists who desire to kill me, my family, you and eveyone else in the US. I think it is my natural survivalist instincts taking over. I may need counseling.

There hasn't been car jacking, home invaision or murder committed by a diaper head in the Money area in years. They don't bother me a bit. Hell, you have to drive all the way to the Minter City grocery just to see one.
