Milo for ducks

Has anyone planted milo for ducks? If so, how'd it do?

Sharp Shooter as you can see this place is so covered up with conservationist that you can hardly get a word in edge wise on how to use milo to attract ducks.

I'm so glad I got in with this bunch.

I feel right at home here!

(PS - you waited a little late this year but if you have a milo field that you can stop up then stop it up, it works good.)

Your duck holes look great Benny. Can you post the GPS coordinates to your hottest holes and can you tell me if roboducks work better over milo, corn or millet and how many spinners do I need to bring? [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

Thanks for the info. Those pics look good. I've never planted milo in my duck holes and I thought it might be promising. I've got 40 acres of corn, 10 acres of japanese millet, and 20 acres of wild barnyardgrass in the field now. Will probably mix in some milo next time. What's the maturity date for milo?
Can it be broadcast or do you have to drill it?

Thanks guys I werked pretty hard on that place but I really enjoy doing it.

I really should have said that the slough is surrounded by a thousand acres of milo. The adjacent farmers for miles have large fields of milo as well. In those conditions the blackbirds are spread out pretty thin eating corn and milo right out of the fields.

Damage to a crop will be low but if you plant this stuff and there is no counter offer they will clean it to the stalk. One way you can avoid that somewhat it so let the other stuff cover it up as it gets older but they will still get in it.

Milo needs loose dirt in dry soils to get a start.
Disk & top spray is fine early on.

In those pics that is a lake botton, it was soft, I top sprayed over mud.

It's pretty tough and versitile. It can take some watr early on but late it needs to be fairly dry, moist is fine but not wet.

Don I dont bring my GPS to Platinum Plus but I will the next time to help ya out buddy!

I think spinners work best in corn, but I used one in the parking lot of Platinum Plus and it did fine there too with $100 dollar bills taped to the wings [img]images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img]
