Will Shula Survive?............

Postby Po Monkey Lounger » Mon Feb 06, 2006 5:24 pm

Lets fast forward to the fall. IF the Tide slips to 6-5 or worse due to a loss in talent and experience at the QB and other positions, AND loses to Auburn again in the regular season finale, will he survive to coach another day at Alabama?

Curry got fired after a 10 win season, because he lost to Auburn. How many loses to Auburn does Shula have left?

In some ways, I think Shula is on the "hot seat" this coming season. He had what appears to be a solid recruiting class this year. And he coached the Tide back to respectability with an impressive first 3/4 of the season last year. But, he lost to Auburn again. Will the Tide fans continue to have patience with Shula?

"BTW, its more like 5/6 of the season."

 Lets not quibble. I was not trying to slam the Tide's season last year. I recall having heaped quite a bit of praise on the Tide during last season on this board.

Webb, surely you have a little more analysis of Shula's situation than that?

He will stay. After the last 6-7 seasons, considering all the Coach Dubose problems, the Coach Price embrassments and such a 10 win season along with a Cotten Bowl win will keep him around at least 2 more years no matter what happens this upcoming season. I personnely think that they won't be that bad next year though. QB will be the main concern. If that works out I look for at least an 8 or 9 win season.

Marshman, I don't think they will be "bad" either. Regardless of the offense, the D will probably still be pretty stout. However, if a QB does not emerge, I can see another sub-par 6-5 type season with a season ending loss to Auburn.

I think the Tide will be on track for a stellar year in '07, if Shula can survive '06.

shula will be fine, 06 should be the last year that bama feels the wrath of the scholarship cut backs, they should be back up to the full number of scholarships, but there will be a lot of young players, they are finally starting to get some depth and have plenty of talent for the future so this next seaon will be a little down but watch out after 06

anything short of a 9 win season and a win over ut and auburn, and there will be trouble. he won't lose his job, but the pressure will be even greater for 2007.
just my 2 cents....

at first i thought this topic was just stupid but now i am glad that it has come up, it just shows how much better bama's program is than state or ole miss, yall are talking about if their coach is going to get fired after he just had a 10 win season, in which they lost their best player after 5 games and then their best lineman a few later, and a cotton bowl victory and an excellent recruiting class, but state and ole miss fans are excitted about the future after 6 losing seasons for state and 2 for ole miss, so i guess there is nothing more to talk about

This topic is just stupid. WHO CARES BOUT BAMA. In fact their basketball team bus pissed me off this weekend. Trying to leave after a good meal, I was blocked by the team bus. While it is snowing and my little one is tired. These people that play gorilla olympics stayed on the bus while these little half pint white boys got all the luggage off of the bus. It took for friggin ever. So now the question I posed earlier. WHO CARES BOUT BAMA? I DON'T

Big Gumbo, I know my predictions are bad with respect to my Rebs ---because I have trouble being objective. I am an admitted homer and all my opinions re the Rebs must be taken with a grain of salt.

But, you my AR friend are the master of wild predictions that NEVER seem to come true. Wally Hall needs to hire you as a sports writer for the AR newspaper. All it takes is a little smidgeon of success in any sport at UA for the homer brigade to fire up the SEC/ national title bandwagon. You would be an instant star.
