Ole Miss gets 4th commit today for 2007 class

Postby Po Monkey Lounger » Tue Jan 31, 2006 5:12 pm

Okolona Running Back Robert Elliott, III, got a scholarship offer from Ole Miss last week and accepted it today, marking the fourth verbal commitment for the 2007 class.

"I like the caoching staff at Ole Miss and the new facility is one of the best in the country. I like what is happening at Ole Miss and want to be a part of it," said Elliott.

Elliott became the fourth commitment for 2007, joining South Panola LB Chris Strong, Trinity Episcopal Day School RB/LB Stevan Ridley and South Panola FB Jeramie Griffin on the quickly-growing list.

This is freaking amazing, especially on the heels of a 3-8 season and a season ending skull dragging by our in-state rival. If anyone is still laughing at Coach O, they are a fool. Coach O is a recruiting machine. Many thought his recruiting success at USC was just the fact that USC attracts great players. But, he is showing that he can recruit well anywhere. He never stops recruiting. As an example, he has already visited 200 high schools in Georgia in preparation for the 2007 recruiting class and beyond ---establishing ties with the high school coaches. Expect to see more quality players from the states of GA and FL on next years signing day list. Once he puts together 2-3 straight recruiting classes like this years' class, the Rebs will make some noise. Hopefully, Coach O can turn this talent into wins on the field. IMO, his recruiting prowess is no longer a question. His on-field coaching performance remains a question and will ultimately determine his success or failure at UM. I'm betting he succeeds. Mark my words, the Rebs will get the last laugh. :D

We shall see soon enough. One thing is certain, the same ol same ol way of recruiting at UM was not working ----- no championships or titles in football since the 60s. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result. I like this new aggressive approach to recruiting at UM. It has already paid off this year, and we appear to already have a leg up on next year. Coach O's strategy is based upon positive energy, enthusiasm, and maintaining momentum. Sending out the early written offers (50 total) to this year's juniors/next years' top prospects has already paid off with 4 commits, with more possibly on the way. Coach O is already creating momentum for the 2007 class and attempting to nail down his recruiting base in MS (all 4 of the commits are in-state kids). Winning on the field in the fall will dramatically help maintain that recruiting momentum and serve to validate the positive opinions of our recruits. Coach O will not be out-worked by anyone.

Make that 5 commits now for Ole Miss for the 2007 class.
6-1, 205 pound cornerback Jamison Hughes from Oxford High recently committed to the Rebels. . . Son of Reb DB Coach Tony Hughes. Runs a solid 4.5, has good football instincts, and hits like a truck. Another good in-state recruit.

Mark, your enthusiasm is overwhelming, and sarcasm noted.

I normally don't get all pumped up during recruiting, but right now it is about all that we have left to hold onto for hope. In case you haven't noticed, the actual football season has not been very fun for two straight years. One more 3-4 win season, and I may call it quits and permanently plan on focusing on nothing but deer hunting during October and November. I have already given up on Basketball at Ole Miss.

So, I am in need of a little slack here.
