Gun prices

I have never shot anything but pumps..right now i have a 2 season 3" BPS and I am gonna try a Gold...what are some of the prices from your areas around the state? [img]images/smiles/icon_confused.gif[/img]

I use to be a Browning purist. I own 3 A-5s and I still dove hunt with them. The new autos are not very reliable. I use to own one and have since sold it. I know of 2 others that have owned a Gold, but they have since gotten rid of theirs also. My experience has been that they are prone to hang up a lot. It could be that by bad luck all three of us happen to get a lemon. I now shoot a Benelli SBE. I have no complaints about it. It is a reliable, easy to clean duck gun. To answer your question, if it were me, I wouldn't give $100 for a Gold Browning Auto.

The Winchester Super-X2 and the BGH are one in the same, except the X2 doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the BGH, but around $100-200 cheaper. The cheapest X2 I've seen was $650 and BGH $800. Before Beretta came out with the Xtrema, I believe the X2 won the gun of the year 2 yrs in a row. GC can give you a lot more info about the BGH's, since I think he owns a couple.

if you're gonna look at semi-autos, don't buy until you consider the Beretta's. I shoot an AL390 (you can only find these used), now the AL391, I have heard good reviews. It has a rounded receiver like the Browning gold (I still like the hump on the 390, same effect as the Browning A5's)

I am now shopping for a used AL390 for my boys. It is a reliable, sweet shooting gun and I had shot Remington for years before that (still wish I had not sold my Rem 870 pump for old time sake).

I just saw a AL390 2 days ago in walmarts, here in Ohio. Im not sure how many they have but if any of you are intrested i can get you some info

The truth is, they all turn out a piece of junk every now and then. I've got a BGH, that I've used for 3 seasons with no problems. I'm going to get a BPS before this season. Ironically, my old winchester 1300 ($325) has held up with the Benelli's, Brownings, etc day after day in the blind.

If that pump your shooting is an 870 than I saw stick with it. But in the sam e breath, I switched from an 870 to a AL390 from Wal-Mart and have not been dissapointed but it does got through shells a little quicker.

I'm sticking with my Winchester 1300 like go 24 said stood side by side with the rest. Brettas, Benneli and of course the ole Remington's........Gonna keep shooting it till me or it wears out. Ive got a Winchester 1200 thats 26 years old and still shoots great!Never had too fix anything on either of them (knock on wood). Hehehehehehe. Interesting. I have 4 Browning Golds. 2 of them are 3.5" duck guns, one of which doubled as a clays gun for a couple of years and has a mere 18,000 rounds through it, including 3" and 3.5" duck loads. Most duck hunters will never shoot that many shells in their entire life, much less through the same gun. No hang ups or jams, other than with some PMC reloads that never would resize. 2 others in my safe are Browning Gold sporting clays guns, I have no idea how many rounds I have put through them, many thousands, and the first misfeed I have ever had was this weekend with a split hull. I think redhead was the trapper on that stand and will vouch for me on the split hull. I know at least 10 guys who shoot Golds, in competition, for money, and swear by them. So, go figure.

Are the Beretta's better guns mechanically? You betcha. I wish I could put the Browning stocks on a 391. But I have a hard time believing all the internet "alligators in the sewers" stuff that you hear about Browning Golds. If Don Miller says he had a problem, I don't doubt it. BUT, if my 3.5" gun is still going after all the abuse, salt water baths and shells it has eaten, there can't be anything wrong with the design.
