Since " they" say alot of hybreds are out there...Id say a hen...did ya check it for an inee or an outee :lol: :lol: :lol: Maybe he was hunting on the coast and is a mottled. If it taste like chicken...its a black duck. If it taste like fish...its a mottled :wink:

Randy,

As for the dozens of mottled ducks ("black mallards" we call them) I've killed, what usually stands out to me is the rusty-orange tinge to their plumage. It's pretty evident in the pics you posted.

As an Ohio hunter who kills blacks on a regular basis, that is DEFINATLY a black duck. ?Mottleds are found primarily on the west coast in the pacific flyway.

Summer mallard for sure. That is an awesome pic on the fla website. I want one mounted like that...been a while since I saw one though. :cry:
At times there is not a satisfactory substitute for well-aimed lead going down range at high velocity.

Mottleds LIVE on the GULF COAST. Texas, LA., and FLA. They DONT migrate :wink:
