Yeah, me too.......here's a Black Duck.......

Speculum is more greenish.......feathers indistiguishably different over a larger portion of the body.
....as compared with........

The yellow bill should be a dead giveaway, too.....but what do I know?
NOW.....the wuestion is........is it a drake or a hen?

Since " they" say alot of hybreds are out there...Id say a hen...did ya check it for an inee or an outee
Maybe he was hunting on the coast and is a mottled. If it taste like chicken...its a black duck. If it taste like fish...its a mottled

Randy,
As for the dozens of mottled ducks ("black mallards" we call them) I've killed, what usually stands out to me is the rusty-orange tinge to their plumage. It's pretty evident in the pics you posted.

Summer mallard for sure. That is an awesome pic on the fla website. I want one mounted like that...been a while since I saw one though.

At times there is not a satisfactory substitute for well-aimed lead going down range at high velocity.
