Because he was not there I guess that gives his employees the right not to have proper customer service?

nope - and that's why you should contact him and let him resolve the issue. I personally would do that BEFORE I dogged his business on the http://www...but that's me.

The "fat guy" behind the gun counter has pissed quite a few people off. He doesn't know crap, and tries to sell you the best profit items, not what you want. I don't deal with "fat boy". I like the store and it's location, and am generally pleased with the service. If I need something behind the gun counter (including ammo), I just ask for someone other than "fat boy" to help and have even knocked on Chris's door a time or two. I have a hard time understanding why "fat boy" is still even working their.

Note: I dropped my deer meat off at MM on Nov. 30 and was told I would get it in about 2/3 wks. Well it's Jan. 1, no meat, no call.

Go see Dave @ Swann's Gun & Repair on Old Canton Rd in Jackson, the other day they had a one Extrema left.

I have lots of MM stories, only I can say is generally employee behavior comes from the top so..............

Happy New Year!!!!

I agree with you, but Chris was not there. I went to Mean Mallard from the get go because of how Chris runs his business and has always been helpful.

thats the only reason i still go there. He and one other guy in
the store are pretty helpful. They just can't be there all
the time.

I'd be pizzed if I had been given that kind of service, or rather lack of service, too, but I can tell you this. Chris is a fine man who is making every effort to run a first rate hunting/fishing store. I feel sure that if you let him know about a problem like this, he will make every effort to deal with it.

Sigmaster - then you are certainly in the minority. I just don't understand how someone can have that opinion about my friends - The Bates Family. I'll also point out that they are long time members of this forum and are respected by many out here.

250 views later and someone still has "$1399 plus tax" burning a hole in their pocket and no shotgun. Nothing has been resolved here.

I think you have lost the point here. The point is that I went to two stores, Mean Mallard and Bass Pro, and at neither store was I given any assistance. No where in any of my post did I say anything negative about your "friend" Chris Bates or his family.

You are taking this on the personal level. This has to do with customer service with both Mean Mallard AND Bass Pro, NOT Chris Bates or his family. Had Chris been there I would have gone looking for him as I first met him when he worked for the Jackson Bandits and have always thought highly of him and his brother. This does NOT take away the fact that on Dec. 31, 2005, the employees of Mean Mallard were too concerned with leaving than they were with selling me a gun. When I arrived at the store there were about 10 customers there and the lights were OUT/turned off around the gun area!

On a side note I should not have to go looking for Chris every time I go into Mean Mallard. It is the responsability of the employees to do THEIR JOB!

I agree with you Drakeshead in wanting to shoulder the guns and such. Unfortunate that you had the experience that you did. I don't think you were asking too much.

Go to the Outfitter on 49 in Richland. Dropped mine off on Monday and had it Friday. Problem solved.

As far as the customer service in hunting stores go I have not seen ANY of them have any customer service worth a sh1t! Someone at MM did stop stocking a shelf and help me size a neoprene vest for my dog once which I greatly appreciated. But I have yet to go in a hunting/fishing store and ANYONE ask to help me. I think they are all about a joke with any kind of customer service. I was gungho about still using local merchants for hunting supplies because of better service even if they were higher. But since I don't get any useful help from any of them I'm going where it's cheaper, the Internet.

I can honestly say I prefer to buy my larger ticket items (blinds, blind materials, clothes, etc.) online. Shells and frequently used items that I need no customer service help with I buy local.

Come on guys, customer service is all but dead.
Call somewhere and you get a recording.
Go out to eat and see what happens. It is a given that you will be disappointed.

I have felt Drakeshead pain often. I agree that to tell everyone what happened is not a slam on Chris or anyone else. It is not personal. I shop there often, I personally have never had a problem there but have had one elsewhere (vans, Bass Pro. outfitters....). I will say that Drakeshead needs to tell Chris exactlly what happened so that he can correct it.

Drakeshead - two points and I am done with this.

1. My last post was not addressed to you - it was addressed to Sigmaster and his jab off of your post and IT WAS directed at people that I know and respect and yes I do take Internet blib blab about folks I like personal. The "top down" comment was out of line.

2. IF I respect someone and like them and want to help them improve their business since I have known them for a long time (as you have stated) then I would first let them know about my experience before I took it upon myself to cast negative word of mouth Internet banter across this site. Nothing is more personal than a man's business (aside from family).

you do as you please.

I have had just the opposite experience at the Mean Mallard. Recently bought some Lacrosse Hawthorne's and the gal that waited on me was very pleasant and helpful. Went back and bought some Lacrosse waders and the guy that waited on me said they had them in Break Up. When I told him I already had a pair in Break Up and would prefer Shadow Grass he went to the warehouse and found what I wanted. There does "seem" to be some egos floating around the gun counter but since I have not bought a firearm from them I certainly can not attest to that.

One thing is for sure, Mean Mallard has what we hunters need. And I can not say that about Bass Pro. I too went to see the Bass Pro hype and won't miss a beat if I never go back.

Softcall, you are right about internet blib-blab, anybody can so whatever they want, whether is true or not. Next time I will keep the obvious to myself and let each person find out on their own.

The truth is, Ive neither been to a hunting or gun store where they are happy, guess their all mad everybody else is hunting!!
