zzz'You honestly don't think that some Ole Miss fans wouldn't sneak in cowbells and use
them to get State penalized more, you're crazy"
Jeff: I have been to virtually every Ole Miss/MSU game for the last 26 years. Which I think is longer than you have been alive. In that time, I have yet to see any Ole Miss fan with a cowbell. I can understand MSU fans being ticked off, but you are hatching a red herring.

If the "new rule" is BS and will "never be enforced", then whats the hubbub, bub? (apologies to Buggs Bunny).
So, you are saying that MSU can't have a home field advantage without artificial noise makers?
Or is it that it takes away from your home field advantage?
That is really what the flap is all about, isn't it?
And by the way, I don't hate MSU. Why should I?
Why should anyone hate me because I went to Ole Miss? Or tell me to "go to hell."
I think the whole thing is way beyond silly, if you ask me.

Here's what I'm mad about, in the 30 yrs that the cowbells have been banned, there's hasn't been a meeting called by the SEC president to discuss "artificial noisemakers" until this chump Khayat took over. He won't step up, be a man and say that he pushed this new rule, instead he tries to push the blame on the other SEC school presidents. This new rule came right out of Oxford, MS. The cowbells were never a problem until a Ole Miss grad got the position. And I hope to god that they don't let him become the SEC Commissioner. Every school uses artificial noisemakers, MSU just chooses to use cowbells instead of Peavey speakers. The cowbells do give us additional homefield advantage, but that's just a part of football. This is UManning's lame attempt to take away our tradition. As for the hate thing, I understand what you are saying. Here's another thing about Khayat, go into MS Word and type Khayat, and do a spell/grammar check. It'll tell you exactly what Khayat really is. Ah, now it comes out. Its really not about "tradition" its "home field advantage." At least GH22 is honest enough to admit it when poked.
The Khayat family are an old and very respected group on the coast. You really should confine your vitriol to Robert, and not paint with a broad brush.

I think that GR22 and cookemducks both make great points. Why do they want to suddenly take away somthing thats been around for so long. I am a Dawg fan but I hate that the weebls had too give up their flags do too political pressure. Of course we always kid the weeble fans on this point but I think that its stupid too take away somthing as traditional as the bells and the flags. What are they going to try and do away with next Dixie. Why dont they just do away with the college bands they have artificial noisemakers now dont they????? so that someone will quit whining or to be politically correct...... GOOOOOOOOO DAWGSSSSSSSS....... 36 TO 28 IS ALL I KNOW HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE RING THEM BELLS ANYWAY!!!!!!

Yeah, first they take away the Rebel flag from Ole Miss then the cowbells from MSU..... next thing they will take away the recipe for ice cubes at Jackson State so they can't mix drinks in the stands.

Can't we all just get along?
Calm down GH22. If you think about it, do you really think just one Ole Miss fan with a cowbell would be heard during the egg bowl? It would take SEVERAL Ole Miss fans to make a noise loud enough to heard, and don't you think they would kinda stand out? Think about it, its just NOT going to happen.
Sounds to me the new guy is making a statement. This new rule is a deterrent. The crowd will be warned, those who don't obey should be restrained by those that have had less to drink. If the noise has not been curtailed, then a penalty will be enforced.
The last thing officials want to do is create a controversy. This rule will give them a little leverage. I am sure the sober MSU fans will try to quiet the unruly ones should the threat of a penalty come in play.
I would be VERY surprised to see that ever happen.

The main thing that will hurt the MSU fans is ringing the bells just because they were told not to. Just to see if anything will happen. Don't penalize the team because you don't believe the officials will enforce the rule. Everybody speaking on this topic have very good points. But, again THE RULE IS NO ARTIFICIAL NOISE MAKERS. Yea, OLE MISS took a lose in a few egg bowls but if you look at the overall eggbowl record we are still way ahead. You are right GH, the 20 thousand dawg fans with bells will blame one drunk ole miss fan for the penalty!
No, it is not a new rule.
No, the other schools do not use artificial noise makers, cept on the PA and with the band . . . but they have to be quiet while the play is beeing called and during play. I'm not aware of any other school having fans, en masse, with ANM's, are you?
Your arguments won't hold water. Are you gonna be a lawyer? I've heard it said that when lawyers can't argue the facts, well they just argue something else. We ought to make this a no spin zone!

GC, I'm not hatching a red herring. Until now MSU hasn't been penalized for the use of cowbells, now by new SEC rule they can be. It only takes one rebel with a cowbell to get State penalized. There is so much hatred between the two schools that if one side has a chance to hurt the other team on the field, they'll do it. I'm a big MSU fan, but I honestly hate the cowbells, cuz I always end up getting surrounded by people ringing them the whole game and my hearing is messed up for a week. But in the end MSU will probably never be penalized for the cowbells because the officials will not know for sure who is ringing the cowbells. Basically this new rule is "BS" and the cowbells will continue to be used. And our great SEC prez is stepping down in hopes of receiving the SEC Commissioner post when Kramer's time is up. This cowbell crap got all started when Khayat voiced this problems with the cowbells to Tempelton at the Egg Bowl last year, saying that the cowbells are the reason that Eli Who? threw 3 Int's and Ole Miss lost the game. "No team should have an advantage over another," said Khayat. Well hell, isn't that what homefield advantage is all about.

How does Ole Miss losing their flags compare to this? Ole Miss (Tuberville pushed it, I believe) decided to get rid of the flags themselves to help recruiting, and they really didn't rid of the flags, just the sticks. State losing the cowbells was brought on by those not associated with MSU. Are they really in the same category?

Forget the jumbotron... What I'm thinking is leaving the cowbells at the house and going to the game with my boom box and speakers, popping in a cd or cassette entitled something like "millions of loud cowbells" (kindof like those cassettes with all those white geese) and turning the volume up full blast!!!

In my biased opinion, the new ruling and all the controversy about the rule are the best thing that could have happened to a bunch of fans looking for something to get behind. We can debate this from now until Sept 19(1rst SEC game) if we want to, but there will be bells in the stadium. And because of the fuss, there will be people bringing them that have not before.
My opinion of Ole Miss. UM people are a sad bunch, always looking to the past to make a point. This was all brought about by UM, because they are jealous.
This will be one of the sparks to a great season. Look for MSU to use this a serious propaganda.

What in the hel l are you talking about Ole Miss is a sad bunch? ..What in the past has anything to do w/ this. I can guarantee you, no one from ole miss is jealous about anything at msu (well maybe Noxubee refuge.)
