Old Friends
My best friend died a year ago today. His name was Jack. He was a 12 year old black lab. We were inseparable. He went just about everywhere with me, be it chasing ducks in four different states, where he logged over 2000 retrieves, floating the White River in northern Arkansas on countless trout fish trips, or curled up under my desk at the office for a mid morning snooze, or sharing a Bud Lite with his master after a hunt. Yes, Jack loved to drink beer. I have owned dogs before, but Jack was really a unique dog in that he was such a pet and a great hunting dog as well. Even though a year has past and I now have another lab puppy, not a day has past that I don't think about him. A fellow once told me that ever man, in his lifetime, is entitled to a good woman, a good truck, and a good dog. I know Jack was the good dog in a lifetime the fellow spoke of. It is a shame that dogs just can't live longer.

Hate to hear about your dog there partner. Like you I wish they could live forever! I will take the good dog over the other two anytime.

I understand the feelings. I've been blessed with some great ones and it sounds like Jack was the same way. All we can do is enjoy them while they are here and keep younger ones coming up through the ranks. Thank God for Labs and Goldens!
