Retreiver Question

Does anyone know how to find out if there are any retriever field trial place listings that occur in the same bloodlines of a litter of puppies?

I'm just trying to find any information that may help to separate one litter of lab puppies from the next.

Yes, go to the AKC.ORG sitre and run a prodigy report for the Damm and the Sire. This will tell you of any titles for their prodigy. I hop ethis is what you wanted to know? [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

I am a AKC Hunt Test Sec & a judge myself and all paperwork is through the AKC. I do not know all that much abot the field trials, but my friend Tigermania has been doing longer than me. Just out out a hail call to Tigermania and you can ask him about it. There are UKC hunt test out there you coul dlook into. I think that Goosebruce would know more about those. I am looking forward to running my labs in UKC for the first time this up and coming fall. [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

AKC is the governing body for field trials. Come by the hunting dog village at the Great Outdoors this weekend and visit with Travis and me. We will be at the UKC/HRC booth. MidSouth Hunting Retriever club will be there as well.

Lot of folks don;t understand the differences. Field trials are competetions, dog vrs dog. They are strictly dogs games, they make no effort to resemble a days hunt. Hunt tests (both hrc & akc) are dogs running against a standard. Dogs pass or fail, and there is no winner. Tests are set up to resemble a days hunt (hrc much more so), and dogs earn passes toward titles that end up on their pedigrees. AKC & UKC (the body that registers dogs for HRC) do not recognize each other titles, so a dog dual registered has 2 seperate pedigrees, neither showing others titles (which is stupid). travis

Ok Big Lou, thanks. Your answer brings up another question. Is the AKC the governing body of the local and regional field trial events, or is there another organization that regulates these events? I've never been to a field trial event, so I don't know how they are set up.

Right Goose, ever see a dog turned down because of the handler....??? happened to me because i failed to show an open breech after a run..... my dumb-a## fault... ole Sam has never let me live it down...haha....

Goosebruce is right about the difference in hunt test & field trials, I have run both HT & FT and I enjoy both very much and I will continue to run both. I have never run a UKC test, but I have been to one at mossy oak as a spectator. My personal choice is the FT, because of the competition and I love the competition, but I will say I have more fun at the HT, it is a totally different atmosphere than FT. Lets just say that at a FT you are running against 50 dogs in your stake and you win the stake, then you know that you had the best dog on that day, they only give 4 places at a FT, but they do give Reserve Jams and Jams for dogs that finish the stake, but not always, Jams are totally up to the judges.

Something I would like to toss out that I have heard for several years: If a dog is registered AKC (first) then you can register your dog UKC and the dog be double registered, but if the dog is registered UKC (first) then the AKC won't register the dog in the AKC. Is this true?? And if so does anybody know why??

An akc registered dog comes from 2 akc registered parents. Therefore the dog would be born either akc eligdble or not. UKC registers purebreed hunting dogs only. A copy of your akc pedigree and a check for $25 makes your akc dog dual registered. A new pedigree comes in mail, and the names are the same, only the titles differ. Every ukc dog in your dogs pedigree is shown by number, and whatever titles they have, but the other dogs are simply named. Looks funny seeing some of those names wif no initals. travis

One can register dogs in AKC and UKC that have all the physical characteristics of the breed. The registration you will get will be designated as limited priviledge. The dog will not be recognized as brood stock but can participate in the hunt test programs. There are some "rescued" dogs running in both programs.
