This morning I took the wife and a girl friend of hers (from Jackson) on a swamps tour. This was on the lower Pearl River. Today's date is May 26. We saw a mature Red Head drake swimming in the river. I wouldn't have believed it if I had not seen it with my own eyes! Jack

Shoot them sprigs on their first pass!

I dont know if its coincidental or not but there seems to be a lot of ducks stayed south this year. When i pulled the water off my rice field/duckhole around the 1st of April, there were SEVERAL hundred mallards and several hundred mixed ducks on it. I've noticed several mamas with little ducks over on my lake. I was down at the camp last weekend working and noticed 20-25 mallards in the hole there. In all I've seen a lot of ducks still here that I have never noticed before this year. Kinda figured they were so late coming down it was too late to go north to nest. I even saw some go down in a dry wheat field like they were nesting there.
Who knows??

Could be a wounded bird that can't fly.
