Picks of the Week - Week 13

Postby lower14 » Thu Nov 24, 2005 8:51 am

Last Week: 4-1

Year to Date: 32-29

Ole Miss -2.5 at Mississippi State

In what promises to be a game of crapola, Ole Miss has fewer steaming mounds of crap than Mississippi State. The Rebel defense is noticably better than State, their offenses are equally inept, and special teams are terrible. Ole Miss wins the field position game and should be able to sneak in a couple of scores.

Wisconsin -6 at Hawaii

Yes, Wisconsin can be thrown on and Hawaii throws the ball more than anyone outside of Lubbock, TX, but Hawaii has no answer for Brian Calhoun. This one could easily turn into a shootout, but Wisconsin just has much more to play for than Hawaii does - Barry Alvarez's only has two games left in his career and the Badgers would love to send him out with a bang.

Oklahoma State +20 at Oklahoma

It will be very tough for Oklahoma to overcome last week's controversial loss to Texas Tech, and both team's bowl fate is sealed, so this game is for nothing more than bragging rights. OSU has done very well in recent years against Oklahoma teams that were a lot more talented than this year's bunch. Oklahoma wins the game, but the Cowboys should keep it closer than three touchdowns.

Notre Dame -18 at Stanford

Stanford is trying to become bowl-eligible, but Notre Dame is gunning for a BCS game. Notre Dame hasn't played outside of South Bend in two months, but the last time they went to Palo Alto (2003), they won 57-7. Look for Brady Quinn to eat up a Cardinal secondary that gives up over 270 passing yards per game.

Louisville -35 vs. Syracuse

This goes against my "rules" of avoiding games with a spread greater than 20, but if there's a condition for breaking the rule, this is it. Louisville is averaging 58.2 points per game at home and they're facing a Syracuse team whose only win came against Buffalo and who are riding an 8 game losing streak. Louisville could cover by halftime.
