Need MSU football update

Postby Bent Barrell » Fri May 17, 2002 12:24 pm

Damn, ya'll are good! I was sickened by the receivers last year. Madkin was for the most part on the money. I did not realize that there was bad blood there. Never heard of York, watched Fant and what little I saw was pretty good. I wonder if he can weather full season of SEC ball? Thanks for the info, saw a truck last week out here in the Texas Hill Country with MSU stickers all over it. Damn near wrecked waving and hinkin', I must be a redneck???

The receivers didn't intentionally drop the passes. It was discovered by the team doctors that Justin Jenkins had a vision problem (corrected with contacts late in the year) and that is why he was so terrible throughout the first part of the season. Grindle was the only consistant receiver until Jenkins got his vision corrected.

Kevin Fant will not fall on his face. The team believes in him and he proved he could lead the team to points over and over again when it was hopeless. The true tests for him were the Miss and BYU games last fall. He completely dominated UManning and did a great job against BYU (the defense gave out on us in that one).

Kyle York was the player of the year in Houston, TX and was rated as one of the top 4 QB's in Texas as a senior. He picked State over Texas A & M. He will be a very good QB at State but he needs to develop his arm strength a little.

As a qualifier to my comments, I was a student equipment manager at State (1985-1988) and I maintain very close ties to the people still in the program there.

Nothing wrong at State that some good ole fashioned player leadership won't cure. Fact is, somebody better step up and say, "This is a football game, not a step show! You dance after you win the game, not before and during!" Damn, it's been embarrassing to see the way the players have been allowed to act the last couple of years! I love the school with all my heart, but it has been hard to watch the ballgames.

MSU Duck Dawg, gotta disagree with you on this one. The drops were blatant and pretty much intentional. What I can't seem to figure out is this, with all the tests these players go through, how come it took them so long to figure out that Jenkins had an eye problem? Sounds like someone came up with that to take some blame off of Jenkins, yet he could catch the ball with one hand, yet not in the numbers. Jenkins couldn't catch Madkin's passes, but he sure could catch everyone of Fant's. The receivers were awesome in the Memphis game, then just plain sucked after that until Fant got in the game, and woo they all of a sudden could catch the ball. I'm glad that Sherrill stuck with Madkin the whole way, the players around madkin chose to have the 3-8 season, not Madkin.
