This topic has already been analysized, broken down, hashed out , discussed, explained, argued, etc. etc. ----there are dead horses lying everywhere. Just go look through the archives.
Not trying to be ugly or rude, but I'm personally sick of discussing Coach Cutcliffe. Yes, he was a good, likable man who represented Ole Miss with a lot of class, but so did MSU's Rocky Felker, Alabama's Bill Curry, LSU's Curly Hallman, Arkansas's Ken Hatfield., etc. etc. (I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the point). Obviously, there is a lot more to coaching SEC football than being a nice, likeable guy. Cut took Ole Miss as far as he could go. End of story.
Coach Orgeron is our Coach now, for better or worse. This is his first year. I had decided at the beginning of the season that I would reserve judgement on Coach O, until after a couple of seasons, regardless of the number of wins and losses. Nothing has changed to alter my ability to judge the program under Coach O. Still too early to proclaim him a savior, a bust, or yet another Coach mired in mediocrity. So far I like what I see as far as the changes Coach O has implemented( I really like to see hard nosed defenses and believe that is the key to championships). However, only time will tell if these changes translate to wins on the field.
Rest in Peace, Coach Cut. Go Coach O.
Ole Miss / Cutcliffe

I liked Cut and had no problem with his personality. IT was his inability to get us to the next level, even with Eli at QB, that I had the problem with. We always underachieved under Cut. And his recruiting the last three years he was at UM was woefully lacking to win in the SEC ---- just watch the Rebs any given Sat. And he NEVER got a handle on the defense --after something like 3-4 different DCs. Enough already about Cut!!
IF a Coach can produce wins, I don't care if he has the personality of a stump ---- Just win baby. Winning the "Miss Congeniality" award ain't enough.
So far, I like Coach O's personality. He tells it like it is with very little sugar coating. He apparently is comfortable and does well at alumni gatherings (or so I am told --have not been to one yet with Coach O in attendance). He is confident, but not arrogant, admits his mistakes, and actually makes substantive changes to improve deficiences ---eg player personnel moves, play calling, scheme adjustments, etc. I just hope he can lead the Rebs to wins and SEC titles.
The problem for the Rebs this year is that there are just too many deficiencies. We have some talent, but not nearly enough and not at the right positions. And what talent we have is very thin, making us very susceptable to injuries week in and week out. This year's Rebs need to be 100% healthy every game just to be competitive. Of course, as expected, injuries have happened to key players and we have had few answers. And there is no quick fix for an outmanned and inexperienced OL. No choice but to throw many inexperienced players into the fire and hope they get better with experience. There is no quick fix for the lack of a true SEC quality QB. We are what we are. A decent football team with some talent, with the capability to be pretty good when healthy and playing well, and the capability to be really bad when things go wrong. The Rebels are just not a good football team right now. And I don't think any coach in America could have made this year's version of the Rebels into a "good" football team.
I have no illusions of grandeur. Coach O has his work cut out for him. Next year could be as bad as this year (from a number of wins perspective) with the likely SEC inexperience we will have at all the offensive skill positions (with the one exception of RB --could be ok with McSwain and Ben Jarvis Green Ellis at tailback, and Lane and Pittman at FB). Unless we sign Brent Shaeffer, our future at QB could rest with 2-3 incoming freshmen, Lane, and RS freshman Billy Tapp. The WR corps will be completely new. The OL will still be young and inexperienced, even with talented freshmen and sophomores dotting the 2 deep. A LOT would have to come together for the 2006 Reb offense to really improve significantly ----Juco recruit Shaeffer (former UT QB) would have to sign and be as good at QB as advertised --- would have to sign some great quality OL Jucos in the early signing period, with all of them hitting the ground running ---- the incoming freshman WR signees would have to be ready to make an early impact, unless we snag a couple of great juco receivers (Banks, etc.) ---- offensive coaches would have to get their act together and improve play calling, schemes, red zone performance, etc. In other words, we need a freakin miracle.
Even if the defense continues to improve under Coach O, unless that defense can also score some points, we will likely have 4-5 wins at best next season. Barring a lot of good luck and a few miracles, the Rebel offense is at least about 2 more years away from being able to consistently win in the SEC and seriously compete for a title.
All of this is why I have started drinking heavily, and plan to do more hunting in the future.

nope, I stop in about once or twice a week but been really slow over here, ya'll down in the dumps.
The word going around up here as of today is that Cutt wants to coach again as a head coach. That he will not go back to coaching at UT cause if he's successful that will put him into a great OC nothing more catagory. We have a top notch #1 rated qb coming in, and it seems that he and Houston are fairly tight and this would be a good point for Houston to get an OC and if he has success molding another all american qb it would open up more doors for him. Thats the talk on the radio today. Everyone closely associated with the program say Nutt is safe but to expect major changes. I'd give it a 30% chance in Hades.
18 true and redshirt freshmen saw significant playing time in the game against Ole Miss. That means nothing right now but they are getting some real game practice in for next year. We get better every week.
I ask you Miss and State folks, who has a brighter future? I just hope Nutt doesn't screw it up.

"Ya ever work beef Billy?"
Hog win eight next year including a win over Ala. Laugh all you want, but it'll happen.
Ark is a small state, our pop. is less than 3 mil, theres a ton of school districts that don't even field a football team and bunchs more that are so small the kids never develop due to lack of opportunity and coaching. until the state makes alot of these money sinkholes consolidate, theres an untold amount of kids that fall off the map. We do not have one juco football program, we have a great number of small schools that actually do alright.
ASU is a joke, but it took all ole miss had to beat them last year so what does that say? Hell, they do have a winning record this year so far. theres a reason UA won't play them, too much to lose and nothing to gain.

Rumor has it that a coach from an SEC team located in MS contacted several of the offensive linemen at Tulane and tried to get them to swap teams. Buddy of mine that is a member on Rivals said that the guys on there heard it on a radio station that it was an Ole Miss coach. Any of you guys hear this?
As for QB's at Ole Miss, this is what I hear:
Schaffer is out there, but a firm scholarship has not been made to him yet. We are waiting to see if Tebow goes to FL or AL. Smelley, not sure on the spelling, is holding out as well because if Tebow goes to AL, then he wants to come to Ole Miss. If Tebow signs with FL, the Smelley, from AL, will sign with AL and Schaffer will come to Ole Miss. Miss. State is not interested much with any of these guys because supposedly Clausen is a "surething" at State. With his brother as QB coach, supposedly it is only a matter of time and ink before he is at State.

UALR does not field a football team
Central Ark is the Bears and my DAD played there in the late sixties
Ark Tech is the Wonderboys
You forgot Henderson St. and Harding
That is hinderance to hte UofA because they don't go play juco ball and if they develope into something we can't get tehm for two years.
