Just had to tell somebody!

Postby Dr. B » Mon Nov 07, 2005 9:59 pm

Man, I am pumped! I'm checking the ole SBE and packing as I type. Heading to SD where the pheasants are thick and the greenheads haven't gotten quite as educated yet! Leaving Sat. and hunting Sun.-Tues. Gonna bust roosters in the mornings, greenies in the afternoon, and swap lies and sip good scotch in the evenings. Wish some of ya'll could be there! It ain't too late to get on board except the plane fare has almost doubled since I bought my ticket. I feel like I did as a 12 year old before my first hunt!

I've never hunted ducks in SD, but I go up almost every fall for the pheasants. Unfortunately, I didn't get to make it up there this year. I heard from some friends who went that SD had the best hatch this year that they have had in several years and the pheasants are more plentiful than ever! Just my luck, I miss the best year in a long time!!

Looks like a good time was had by all.

Haven't hunted up there in years, since you could knock on doors and gain private land access long as it wasn't the opener. One trip in particular we arrived at the campground with our tent and the lady said you have it to yourselves just pick a spot - danged near died of frostbite before daylight, had a (new) heater by night 2!! Thinking about getting a trip together for next year, it sure is a rush to her those roosters getting up fussing and cussing! Good luck and post pictures when y'all get back.

Our plan is to do mankind a favor and try our best to reduce any possibility of avian flu virus from affecting any of the hunting community at large by harvesting as many fowl as legally allowed. However, if a duck or pheasant promises to give it to a PETA person, then he can keep quackin' and cacklin'!

Will try and post pics when we return if I can figure out how.

Some of us will just have to sip on some good Scotch and live vicariously.
