blood dogs
I was reading someones post and it reminded me on how bad i need a good blood dog. I dont have the needed time to do the training myself so i would need one that is finished. Anyone know of any dogs or trainers? BRAINSTORM!! what a market this could be

Brad, I trained my on with very little spare time. He found a deer last week. He's only 2 yrs. old
Just get some deer blood and/or a deer liver and keep them in the freezer. You can keep the blood in the frig if the 'sig. other' will let you.....
Every once in a while drips some drops in a big zig-zag pattern 75-100 yards and leave a small piece of liver at the end. He's catch on real quick.
Also, I keep a tennis ball w/ deer blood in a zip baggie in the frig and throw it just to keep the scent on his mind (and his mouth).
Start this as a puppy and he's be good to go in a year or so.

Yeah they learn real quick. Anytime you can put them on a trail you should just to let him find the deer. Even if ya know where the der is laying. Another good way tyo keep the blood in the frig is in a ketchup or mustard squeeze bottle. Real clean nad easy to use just squeeze ya out a trail of drops to a leg for training. Its also good to keep him leashed on a trail.I have a golden that has found her share in her younger days but she is too old now.

I can tell you one real easy a timeless way to train that...just better make sure you can be near him when you catches....
STEP #1: Get a male lab like mine size an everything(in fact me a jtdumallard may have a male to sell ya soon

STEP #2: Take him on every retrieve you can keep him in the woods and around deer scent as often as possible when he is little....this teaches him the trailing part, congratulat the mess out of him when he smells his way up to any deer no matter the difficulty always let him smell his way up to it...congratulate him and give him liver and take it from him, make him mad, give it back...all this when his is young (so you'll need to get a pup during or right before season)
STEP #3: This is the key step on the catch dog part! The pup is gonna be skiddish of the deer at first, tease him with him make him jump and be kinda defensive over that dead carcass....so take every deer killed when you skin em down, cut their head off at the neck, like you'd normally do, and take that head and wear that puppy out with it...he is gonna be curious but skiddish of it so hold it by the horns and run towards him with it, then let it still, let him sniff and kick it to startle him, hold the horns and run him into the ground with the nose and scare the daylights out of him....do it for hours and hours and I guarantee you by 3 or 4 deer he will hate a deer to such a passion it ain't funny....
I did this to my male and he to this day, he can't even handle a mounted head, when he is inside I have to keep the door to the room with my mount closed cause he'll tear the paint off the wall try to attack it...at 6 months by the 3rd deer I did this with he ripped both ears and the nose off the deer and it was unreal the hatred that dog had for that deer when he found it, he growled, barked, humped (dominace thing) it was nutz,a dn the deer was DEAD, the movement of the carcass is what turns em on, a live one would be something else I imagine...now the thing is he is a BIG lab and I am sure I'll need to be near when he finds one to prevent him from doing too much damage and I think his size will be an advantage...but I'm telling you it took just 3 deer and doing those things and he hasn't been around a deer since January and to this day a head on the wall or a set of horns or anything sets him off...
TERROR is the best motivator!!!

I know the value in a good dog. I offered a friend of mine $1,000 for a choc lab and he said he has already been offered $2,000 and he wasn't for sale. bout 3 years ago he ended up giving the dog to us. they moved out of town and thought it best we get the dog.
I also have another buddy that had one and he sold it for $5,000. of course it was a bad mf if you know what i mean. he said one time a deer went out in the water and the dog "sarge" retreived it like a duck. the deer was underwater when it finally gave up and the dog actually came up w/ it in his mouth. it was a choc lab aswell.
i know the man to talk to on these dogs. he guides professionally and keeps 2 or 3 at all times. i'm sure he would be willing to train/sell you a dog.
i will see what he thinks if you are interested...

Depending on the breed, some do better work than others!! Labs have great noses and mine has saved me on numerus deer I would have lost in cutovers or thick pines!! The thing with most labs is they don't exactly "follow" the blood trail!! They will nose to the ground for the most part but then do what they are breed to do!! They make circles(quartering) and try to "wind the deer"!! They will stay on trail somewhat and will make their way back when they croos the trail again!! It amazes me how good they can "wind" deer!! I have had some deer I have found and just let my dog trail em for practice and thought there was no way they could find em due to crossing water etc!! They always find em somehow!!!! Better than just giving up due to not any blood etc!!!! If the deer is within 200yds it is a found mofo!!!
